Bof !

i too hate all demos, especially the new ones, and the coders of these - none of them run on my 2001-laptop. FUCKING LAMERS!

ep: if you state that you find "demoscene" no place for you, why do you keep haunting it?
Hey, EP, don't take your case for a generality!
- I'm 31 -> vieux con too.
- I'm French -> sorry.
- I stopped my scene activities with the death of the Amiga in 1997 -> Like most of oldschoolers.
- I have a PII 333MHz with a 32Mb 3D card, so I can't see the actual demos at home, I just can watch the divx (and only some of them which don't ask for too much CPU).
- I work hard too -> See, you are not the only one.

But I'm back since 1 year and I think the scene is much greater than what it used to be!

I went to 3 parties in 2004 and had great fun there and could see some nice prods even if there actually is a crap overload. And at each one I could get a prize (At breakpoint it was fastmusic compo so don't expect to find a clue of that in the official results).

Scene has turned in something completely different than what is was but it's still great and underground. You just seemly can't adapt because you probably are a psychorigid looser who spend all his energy at work where there are much more interesting things in life to experience.

Yeah, I don't say I have te time to do all what I would like to... I don't know if I will find the time to do a compo for BP05...
We also wanted to do a demo with Pib/Drd and started it well with the story board and so on, but as he works at EA Sports and got lot of work it's actually stopped...

But I don't feel the need to complain about it, it will be for next party, that's all!
If you think actual coders are lame and demo have no style nor design (which is mainly true) just find the time to do better, but don't complain about the system you choosed to enter in, which eats all your freedom for money.

Ok, I haven't read all because this text is very stupid, so I can only comment on some parts. But first, you should go shopping.

Quote:
But I'm OK with U :
writing and answering using forms like
pouet / email / article is not good as it lacks interactivity.
Perhaps I can install a webcam here and we will be able to talk.

Come to breakpoint and have a talk.

Quote:
I'm 29 years old, entered scene in 1992, have lost scene focus in 1997, "reenter" in last year.

Ask the real oldschoolers, they'll tell you you aren't oldschool. Maybe sonderschool, but that's another question.

Quote:
For hardware, I have already demonstrated it isn’t used to the max and can’t no more in other article.
DVD / CD player can be used to resurrect swapping and for archiving purposes.
Why not make CD demos only, which don’t use Windows nor Linux ?
A new challenge.

Oh yeah, selfbooting demos. Everytime I wanna watch a new one, I have to reboot my machine. Cool.

Quote:
4K aren’t real 4K as demonstrated in my article about DirectX.

They never were. Even in the early nineties people used BIOS-functions. The BIOS is only a piece of software located somewhere else than in your Windows directory.
And the farbrausch guys didn't do a 3d-shooter in 96k, they only called some software functions. Yeah, lame, I know.

Quote:
An anim is big ?
Ok, it’s big but DVD players are really common today
and watching demos using a DVD can be a way to reach more people.

At that point you are missing one fact: Who makes the DVDs? Who sells/shipps them? How much will it cost me to get the best 100 demo^H^H^H^Hanimations from a year? With my standard broadband connection I had no problems downloading demos, depacking and running them.
This is the point where your articles stays unclear and where reading on isn't worth.

Btw: Wenn hier jeder anfängt, in seiner Landessprache zu schreiben, verstehen wir uns am Ende gar nicht mehr. Denk mal darüber nach.
ahahaha sonderschool, der war gut =)

Sure, but I will only support machines that have the exact same CPU, chipset, motherboard, soundcard, videocard, and are configured EXACTLY the same.
I can in no way guarantee that it will work on anything else. But that should not be a problem for people who like DOS demos.

Hello !

What WTF and sonder means ?
Lots of demonstration, lots of arguments, citations, used in my lame designed but means aimed web sites. Seems compression used by nowadays sceners is lossy ones.

I see, DipSwitch is your FRIEND and as a friend you protect him.
Personnaly I have nothing against him but he was not giving respect too me and so I react against his way of communicating.

My bad web sites show me you don't know reading one more time : 20 pages reduced to 3 lines, nobody can sum up my though to so little things that's impossible and I fear what your brain are able to do with good texts written by others people...

Morever you all emphasis on some points, looking at the shape and not to the deep down, that's really a pity.

I'm a consumer ?

YES, YES, YES

I'm alone ?

NO, NO, NO

YOU ARE TOO !

Swappers were lamers, useless, dear Kb ?
Without them though the scene had been dead : coders, musicians, graphists, swappers, and all others part of the scene circle are or were necessary to let him live. They were 100% equal and network admin / web masters are 100% equal to the master musico-coder you are. Without your prods they have no use, without them your prods stay on your HD, so...

Internet have killed me ?
Well internet have created webmaster, server installers, network administrators, ... So the circle have changed of shape, the deep down is the same except of one thing : before we didn't have an index of all what was produced and it was impossible or hard to get something nobody have been told about. Some demos came in no order, from nowhere on your mailbox. I sent 50 disks to coders worldwide, none have answered me, hard those demo coders...

Nowadays we became consumers as the net is a supermarket and is used mainly for this aim : pouet is something like a download land for lots of people, watch the logs. But hey that's good and better than Wallmart, as we can here talk and exchange point of views.

I even see change in your way of communicating : now you are less agressive, more open minded, that's good and better.

Soon you will comment my articles saying, "that's part is good", "I don't agree with this one", "I have a link which proove what you said is wrong and proof the contrary", "what you mean here ?", "I don't understand this sentence, could you explain it to me ?", ... Well you will request information to get comprehension, as my article like any other isn't complete nor perfect.

DipSwitch have expressed his point of view about my thoughts, I have understood nor him nor a lot of sceners have understood my points. I was sorry about that and the shape you used in your answers have hurted myself. I hadn't used insult in my articles nor emails whose I see everywhere in old posts like those of hugi 29. So I was forced to use some way of communicating with less shape and more pictures to be easily understood. My english isn't as good as yours, well that's life : launching trolls and fighting to let people talk then reading good english, learning new words in context.

I'm now living in UK, the war had a aim.

The main reasons for STS will be soon revealed.

Patience.

heheh the place of traders in the scene, that's such an original debate!

ep: your consumer point of view couldn't be more wrong.

the net is vast and infinite, it ISN'T a fuckin supermarket, there are more amateur sites than commercial ones, underground sites are still pullulating, and the scene is one of the last bastions against consumerism (and i'm damn serious for once).

the world/net/scene aren't limited to your narrow sight. Fortunately!
added on the 2005-01-24 08:08:46 by Zest Zest
i doubt that "Swappers were lamers, useless, dear Kb ? Without them though the scene had been dead" is very true. Most of us, coders, are prominent in the art of copying data to floppydisks and mail them in envelopes.
Have you heard? From now on, pouet will be shut down for Saturdays.
added on the 2005-01-24 09:29:49 by tomcat tomcat
Tomcat: Cool. This will make people do more useful things on Saturday, such as coding demos. Who's behind this great idea?

I read some of EP's stuff in Hugi and Dipswitch's reply in Pain. The whole affair is crazy funny.

EP:
I am a democoder. I make 4K intros. I like black backgrounds. I like abstract mathematical stuff. Phear me! I am your worst nightmare, and you cannot stop me!

Understand this: To save the scene, you must save the coders. As long we coders write demos, the musicians will write music for us, the artists will make models for us, and sites like pouet will share our prods. The demoscene exists because coders make demos. Without coders, the artists and musicians would find other outlets for work, the parties, web sites, and diskmags would go away, and the scene would vanish.

Your articles are pure bullshit, because you know nothing about coders. If you think we make demos to get rich or have millions of viewers, you are dead wrong. We make demos because we love code. We like overcoming obstacles, learning new things, and making cool stuff. As long as a few like-minded people enjoy our stuff, we are happy.

We don't give a shit what worthless consumers like you think of our work. If the demo doesn't work on your video card, get lost! Why do we want you to be happy? We work long hours for free to make demos. Why? Because we want to make ourselves happy. If you have something bad to say about our work, shove it. We don't want to hear it.

So, I'm going to make 4K demos because sizecoding is a fun challenge. I'm going to make mathematical stuff, because I see a beauty in numbers. I'm going to work with my artist and musician friends, because I like the way their art improves my demo. And I am going to ignore you, because I don't need any of your shitty ideas!

Ah. Felt good to say that.

Rasmus: Yeah, our local "swapper ring" also consisted solely of coders, gfxerss, musicians and a few hollowed school bock, but pssssh! They do not want to hear that!

Oh btw, EP, before we continue discussing anything - how about going into the actual arguments "we" offer instead of only reacting on details you think you have a grip on.

Because this old, tired and wretched rhetoric means has long been seen through.
