what's an SM3?
Shader Model 3?
i guess that makes sense
variform is the first thing that springs to mind
Do you mean demos that actually really use SM3 features? Or just any good demo working well on <= sm3 hardware?
Variform is fixed-pipe though, isn't it? Or are you just saying that as "well it's still a cool demo!"? :D
If I recall correctly I had a similar situation for a really long time, years ago.
I might be wrong but I think these were SM2 demos that worked on my crappy Quadro, but I wont wage my head for it:
Dead Ringer by Fairlight
Meet the Family by Fairlight
Balance by Adapt
Bacardi Cola by Moonhazars
Instant Zen by Synesthetics

Right! Shadermodel 2 or 3 but on lowend CPU (1,6Ghz P4)
The NV6200 256MB@64BIT Memory-Interface runs:
- ATI-TechDemos from 8500 up to 9800
- Nvidia Techdemos up to GF6
- Matrox Techdemo Reef
Now I am searching for Demos/Intros that use the Shaders (preferred 2 or 3) that run good on my system.

Maybe give a try to this, it was running quite smooth on my old dual processor Athlon MP +GF6800GT workstation:

And I definitely recall Debris running okay in low resolution on the same workstation when I was testing a GF6200A card in it, so:

Dead Ringer by Fairlight http://www.pouet.net/prod_nfo.php?which=25776 Requires P4>3Ghz
Meet the Family by Fairlight http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=24491 could be possible => I will test it.
Balance by Adapt http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=26513 could be possible => I will test it.
Bacardi Cola by Moonhazars http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=25790 could be possible => I will test it.
Instant Zen by Synesthetics http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=18359 could be possible => I will test it.

gargaj: just that it's a cool demo that should run just fine on that system.
i was under the impression that the cpu wouldn't matter all that much for gpu focused demos, but i'm sure there are a few out there that need both. can't really think of any other useful name drops right now though. maybe top 1k's from 2004-2010? not sure what year shader model 4 became common and i'm too lazy to google it right now.
this might be a good starting point:

I am rather sure I have run Dead Ringer on a slower CPU before, so still worth trying.
would be more useful if there was a window of days like in the old pouet -_-
proton by science http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=51463 we put some nice sm3 shaders in that one
btw. this is the machine :) http://www.merlin.com.mt/merlin/pdf_files/ds_scenic_t.pdf
I have the version with D1321 mainboard and I use this GF6200
Gainward Nvidia GeForce 6200A 256MB DDR2 AGP8x 6200AXTD26-PM8H44

Wow, very nice advices...thx! weekend is coming...hopefully very fast :)
The nfo for Lifeforce says it was made on an Athlon XP3000 and GeForce FX5600 Ultra, which isn't too much faster than your machine, and would put it at SM2. I imagine other mid-2000s ASD demos would work similarly.
I have tested some...the CPU seems to be way to slow :(
But parts of this one are smooth an look very beautiful.

I think I should go for SM1-Demos.
Looks good http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=31005
no, you should go for a new pc ;p
