Remove the "-ish" ones, see how much you have left.

don't understand why you're so reluctant to add pico-8 Gargaj, it's been getting new demoscene releases almost every month. it's clearly trendy and being targeted by a handful of sceners and will get more releases in 2017 for sure.

Well, it still has no Hardware...and never will as much as i see it.
On the other hand i was about to jump into Pico8-coding after informing myself a bit about the specs...just the having to pay for it turned me off, as i was low on money at that time...so i guess i will buy it soonish and get my hands wet with a release soon after.
That said, i think there will be more and more Pico8-prods coming up...until we all had our fun and all records are taken...may take some years.
Just my 2cents...i understand Gargaj being still reluctant but i also understand everyone who wants it added as a platform already!
If i was Gargaj i would just add it, everyone that wanted it would be happy (and there is noone who explicitly does NOT want it i guess) and myself would get rid of one more reoccuring problem!

What about the Javascipt category, then? Or Java, Flash or (hem)Alambik?

The PocketCHIP seems to support PICO-8 out of the box. This feature is touted on on almost 50% of their product page. Technically I suppose it's the C.H.I.P. itself that supports the PICO-8 which, again, mentions suppor for it on the product page. $9. is pretty cheap for a "hardwareless" console, assuming you already have a wall wart, video cable, and keyboard. :)
The PocketCHIP is just "random ARM board with Linux" running a Pico-8 emulator as well as many other things. Does that really make it a platform?

Anyway, I guess the matter is waiting a little to see if the platform continues being used after some time. If there is just a dozen prods in the few months after the thing is released, then everyone forgets about it, it doesn't make much sense.

At the moment we have 3 prods released at demoparties, the other are just "demoscene-ish" I guess?
So "Ad Astra", with code & music by 4mat doesn't count as a demoscene production? :)

I count 4 at the moment (of what is tagged 'pico-8' on demozoo); that is not much, but other platforms are just as sparsely populated. Maybe one or two more prods at demoparties should do it.

As I said on Ad Astra's page, only releasing things at demo parties isn't healthy for a scene that is increasingly getting smaller. That's why I released it when it was done rather than waiting. Remember, back in the old days we'd release demos all year round and parties weren't the be all and end all. There's never been a rule about demo party releases being the only things scene-related.

Yay, it's the return of the "your enhanced ZX Spectrum isn't a real computer because it's just an FPGA configuration" debate!

If you can program in it - if it provides a fixed instruction set and I/O capabilities that you can use to make things, and other people can take the same set of capabilities and make different things and then compare them against each other, then it's a platform. Why does it matter whether that platform is implemented in etched silicon, or FPGA, or a VM, or an emulator, or a trained monkey in a box?

Nah it's the return of the "does this platform have enough potential as a demoscene platform and won't it just be another WonderSwan or Alambik" debate. So it's not really about what a platform is exactly, but rather about how much junk sane admins and contributors want in their dropdown boxes ;)
added on the 2016-12-06 13:34:24 by havoc havoc
I don't mind junk in my dropdown actually, that's how I learned about the existence of some of those platforms in the first place.

I was going to complain about 4 prods being not enough, but =Pokemon+Mini&page=1]this (and WonderSwan). That even makes Alambik and Intellivision look like popular platforms.
Not to mention that Neo Geo is yet considered as "not popular enough" :DDD
Anyway, I see a positive consequence of this debate -> the need for more (quality) demoscene releases, no matter the platform (Pico-8, Neo Geo, ...).
added on the 2016-12-06 15:59:24 by fra fra
I understand! And I also think at least 10+ quality demos for platform.

so clearly more people need to be making demos for pokemon mini and wonderswan for pico-8 to be accepted as an "official" demoscene platform on pouet :D

Those two were your doing, you can't shift the blame.

it was sarcasm gargaj. i see nothing wrong with those categories existing on pouet. i agree it would be better if they had more entries though.
