Prods that are no longer / never were

I think it's a much bigger problem that people don't generally even watch prods anymore, only Youtube videos.

But then you can't skip the boring parts!

Solution: Don't have boring parts in your demos!
Wasn't there also a lost "final" version of Dope that we only have the music from, or am I misremembering?

Emulators for the win! (ALT+W in Vice f.e.)

Better solution: Make them hidden parts instead. ;)

So I'm at two minds of this, and it essentially hinges on what Pouët should be treated as: is it meant to be a comprehensive archive, or is it meant to be a showcase / commenting site?

Another thought: consider files.scene.org as a warehouse. Then Demozoo is a library, Curio is an art gallery, and pouet is a watering hole/office water cooler/corner pub. If something is vaguely scene-related, and people want to talk about it, why not let them? (What percentage of BBS posts are in offtopic or residue? ;) )

A"lost prod" status flag, as suggested upthread, might be nice - it would warn folks "no, don't complain if you can't find this."

People adding stuff to pouet without a working dl links should be autobanned.

My personal "favorite": http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30701 :/

CSDB has pages for lost prods. Some of them have quite detailed comments, and a few of those prods were by high-profile groups so it's interesting.
