Assembly Summer oldskool compo rules

category: parties [glöplog]
I agree that the quality of the oldskool demos was not very high. A lot of that was because, in a sense, due to all the setting-up and re-learning, they were everyone's first demos on that platform. And some entries were literally the authors' first demos on the platform. So why have a different platform every year? Everyone should be spending time already right now, making effects and learning for 2017.

yzi: there are always wild compos. I don't see any reason why a DOS demo wouldn't be applicable for let's say Revision or Evoke.

Wild compos are always kinda joker cards. There can be anything from really good demos with real platform and on the other hand there can be something "funny" like ti-85 demo or demo made for led-displays and audience will give their votes for those because the amusement factor. I don't like participating with "real platform" (amiga, pc, c64, etc) in wild compo because of this.

Especially in Assembly where there are so many people voting with no knowledge of demos, the wild compo is many times won by a "gimmicky" platform even when the demo itself is nothing special. For example the metro station display a few years back, the platform was pretty cool but the demo itself was not that special.
