category: general [glöplog]

A video of Daniel Lehenbauer showing off some features of the upcoming Microsoft Avalon 3D, the new presentation subsystem for Windows that unifies development of documents, graphics, and applications into a common platform. Apparrently he is the main developer for the 3d features.

Not too impressing so far. Guess it wont be a good demo platform anytime soon.

read one of those ms community sites once, avalon3d film was on their frontpage and the interviwed guy was impressing us with a handwritten-coordinates-for-mesh-for-a-cube/plane and a sine moving camera.

"all this, in ONLY 300 LINES XML" well.. seriously X)

don't worry, they *will* destroy it and you *will* still be using it in the years to come.

I'm still bitter about them claiming .nfo files. The bloody stones of those lot :/

It turned it off after the 100th 'you know..'. No I fucking don't know and I don't want to find out...

From what I can tell, this is just a layer on top of DirectX for making pretty, managed-code GUIs. Unless you want nice, fast, JIT code, who cares?

This didn't impress me at all. Just as the guy says (when "you know" and sipping coffee), it's what game developers have been doing all along. This time, Microsoft did it and they provide an XML frontend.

The good thing is: if applications start using Avalon, they will finally look like computer screens in the movies.

Writing emails in 48pt fonts make me so hot.

I like this 3Dified MFC thingie.
Well at least it is a better idea than trying to do a User Interface for games in Flash (which is the most idiotic thing ever thought of)..

horrible site though, fails to bleakly do any remote justice to the actual movie.

Well... seems this Avalon is going to be a good demo maker.
