Ignore this: ok 10 years is enough time to get to "almost there"

category: residue [glöplog]

First party was in 2008, loved it before that... but the ideals I saw through that I havent lived up to...plenty of excuses, some even good ones, some good ones due to shit i brought upon myself. "Who are you" and "What do you want" must be answered these next two-three years or its over, thats shit you promoised yourself and yourself only.

And you'd been stupid, stupid through all these years.

and yes "Ignore this:" is codeword for "shy but I wan't people to know I'm shy"....also drunk and tonsilitis....hah what a world.

Imagine what all your 8 years of aspirations suddenly...or rather in quick succesion came to fruition....shiny and glorious... Good lord considering where I'm allready am with my complexes I'd be the most legendary Demoscener ever...in obnixiousness.....I want to be that scener, I want it so bad. 8 fucking years....

WHY ARE YOU READING RESIDUE!?

Also...I'm feature creeping the demo once every third month.

Take your time, it's never too late.

Seconded. Do what you enjoy.

Just fucking do it. I procrastinated with music stuff for years until I realized that it just won't happen by itself. Go ahead and do it, you'll feel better afterwards and we'll have a beer.

I feel you, bro!
do it for yourself not for some bullshit demoscene fame, tho...
and afterwards tell me exactly how you did it ;)

Instead of trying to make "the demo", try to focus on making demos, and improving every time.

My first releases were the crappiest of the crap. But it got better (I hope).

@urs I think you're doing OK ;)

@Deus I have a (small) notebook of demo ideas I haven't had time to code yet - beat me to the punch! :) Just don't read the comments people leave on your first prod, or get a friend to read them and only send you the non-troll ones. That should reduce your anxiety level :) .

or simply make a decent/nice one :)
The first-prod comments are typically quite nice actually. It's the second-prod comments that really hit hard.

At this point I'm more and more convinced that focus and willpower is more important than skill.

Actually, make that interest and drive first, focus and willpower second, skill third.

exactly what gargaj said.
also: "The most important thing about art is to work. Nothing else matters except sitting down every day and trying."
Just do something, no matter how crappy or scaled-down, release it, be done with it. Feel good. Then immediately start the next thing.

are you living the dream or dreaming to live? (enough from my teen angst repertoire)
cupe: I saw that quote before (Beeple?) and I don't actually agree, but certainly doing things is a prerequisite to doing things well.

beeple is like cocoon demos with slightly better non-realtime rendering tricks and better sync. :P

Deus: thanx for the incentive :) . This thread gave me the kick I needed to start coding. I'm doing a framework and now have GNU Rocket driving a scenegraph. Gotta start somewhere! You can do it!

I've been active since 1995 and Kusma still beats my ass. Matter of talent and creativity mostly these days.

As for becoming a proper programmer -- 10 years is a nice start, but not enough.
