I often use CueTools but it's for lossy formats, Foobar2000 will happily split mp3/cue aswell but re-encoding is going to produce a little degredation in quality. There was some extensive discussion on the HydrogenAudio forums about splitting mp3/cue with as little quality loss as possible, I think there's a tool that does direct file cutting somewhere but most of the times I just use cue tools or foobar, I guess it just depends how anal you want to get about audio integrity preservation :)

hmm maybe willbe could address that by providing an additional zip archive with files split from the original loseless wav? willbe what do you think?

Small world, I used to admin HydrogenAudio before I got back into the ole scene again.

IIRC mp3directcut was the way to go as it cut on frame edge boundaries, so couldn't do a millisecond accurate cut due to mp3 framing, but was lossless as it didn't re-encode at any point.

I would say double check this though, it has been a LONG time since I looked into this!

I've tried mp3directcut and mp3splt, but as far as I remember, they didn't give gapless mp3s, the solution that worked for me was:
Properly Cut MP3 GUI
It requires java but I think it's worth it. The downside is that you'll have to recreate ID3 tags, that sucks a bit, but really, having gapless mp3s is worth the hassle.
But, I'm no expert, so I don't know if it does the cutting properly, worked for me so far :)

having listened to my sliced demovibes, yeah sometimes transition from one track to another is seemless, sometimes it's not...

what I fail to figure out is: I don't care the cut happens at a precise millisecond; shouldn't the playback be ALWAYS gapless if some mp3 ends at a certain frame in the original file and the next mp3 file starts at the next frame?

@0x100: well MP3 was not designed for gapless playback, some working combinations are mentioned on the wikipedia

Easiest answer : demovibes mixes have not been designed to be sliced.
Saddest answer : if i've been smarter i would have released flac files.
(read: too late, i've flushed the wav sources a long time ago)

Actually in that spirit I also made my annual "In-The-Mix" podcasts for Bitjam. In fact they are a continuation of the Demovibes, since they stopped around 2010. Plus I also make an annual mix of compo music (plus the last two years of the remix releases):
