Let the Amiga rest

category: general [glöplog]
"ps: try to do sth really cool out of an limited machine.. TRY IT.. it will give you satisfaction.."

Yes, I appreciate that, BUT my point is that Amiga sceners are not using a LIMITED MACHINE!

The limitation argument does not hold up when the demos require extra processors and ram (sometimes gfx cards too) to run!
Sure the 060 is limited by PC standards, but it's the highest spec for an Amiga! If there was a 2gig processor for the Amiga, I'm sure Amiga sceners would be using it - thus defeating their argument.
"As for the rest of you, I'm seeing a lot of insults, but STILL no valid defence."

They don't need a defence, it's their call if they work on the Amiga or not in the same way it's mine to work on the C64 and yours to do whatever you do.

Shane: Your argument, that you can trash Amiga, because others use WinUAE is just absurd - if they use WinUAE its the bset proof of the big interest there still is in Amiga productions.

Anyway if you say the quality sucks, thats why we should change, why then making PC stuff with angular objects -this sucks, too if you are used to cinema quality.

So all demomakers quit and go to hollywood, everything else must be sooo laaaame !!!!

By the way I still like Amiga productions, and I think the biggest limitation is not hardware, but ideas!

@Shane: Why do you even bother with the bullshit? Ok, sure you find PC demos more interresting but you don't see me roaming around msgboards telling everyone how lame they are. What's the big deal if someone fires up his Amiga every once in a while and get a kick out of just using it? Or Atari or C64 or Acorn or Speccy etc, etc. People have different interrests. Some do crosswords in the sunday edition. Some break into train yards and paint trains. Some collects disco vinyls. Some people use Amigas. Big deal.
I think shane is right. I mean - what is the point in going through all the effort of making demos on alternative platforms? Whatever has been made in a lot of effort on an Amiga, a C64 or even GBA can be replicated within a fraction of time on a PC. The work could even be simplified by using one of the new demomakers.

Lets be honest - apart from the creators and a few selected people, nobody is really interested in the technical achievement required to reach the end result. What counts at the end of the day is looks, sound and entertainment, not how it was done.

Like I said, it's fun.
And btw, I'm not doing what I do on Amiga for the general public. I'm doing it for me. Stop whining and maybe your penis will grow back.
I think at least 1/6 of the scene is coders, and to them, GBA, C64 and Amiga demos can be very porno.

I am currently writting a GBA demo, and when you optimize your code in ARM ASM it really feels GOOD.

When you are a coder, it can be great to sit by the computer, coding for a day without doing anything else but a bit of chat, surfing and eating. It is so cool when a routine have written is fast.

There are many demos today for PC which SUCKS from a coders view, even though they are nicely designed.
Whatever floats peoples boats really. I loved my amiga, and im impressed by a lot of the amiga stuff released.
That said, i too think that the ppc amiga's seems like lowtech pc's. But im no coder, so what do i know about that.

@Shane:

Perhaps it easier to understand for you, when you compare it to cars.

There are superfast hightech cars with a lot electronical euqipment, that make hundreds of kilometers per hour.

Anyway still people like old cars that have almost no luxury and make not more than 50 km/h and have only gas for 40 kilometers range.

Its the same to with the old computers, sometimes you just like it they still run and you love it to work with them.

Even though I got a modern PC its still something differnt for me starting my STE oder my Amiga2000.

Hot rod stylee.

Hehe, I dunno I might be way off but to me a computer with a 50mhz cpu, 8 bit sound and 256 colors and no 3d acceleration seems pretty limited. And again there is the people only coding (and doing an amazing job btw) for unexpanded a500's.

hey, a double-post.. i thought there was a routine preventing this.. hmm...

JESUS RULES!! I hope he will reward my good work when I enter into his kingdom.

As for the rest of you. Man, you need to relax. Getting so worked up over a computer is kinda sad don't you think. I was just making a practical suggestion. I didn't want people to have convulsions over it.
You betta watch it on the toilet cos it's riddled with fleas. Don't catch the disease. Don't catch the disease. I don't wanna see you die in agonising convulsions on the floor, whooa, whooooa!!

I challenge you all to write a better love song that uses the word "convulsions". Then I challenge you to set it to bagpipes.
blah blah!

I agree, ShaneTheWolf ;). Plain shit, the point is just to have fun! no matter the computer involved.

Well then you don't agree with shane, since he said all sceners should move to making demos on PC only.
