Moroder's video - what the hell is that

category: general [glöplog]
Honestly they are not going to want to or be able to mention ASD every time the video is shown. The fact is you have a big business and a lot of marketing bullshit with this sort of project and all they care about is their own profit. Your video is being used to generate them profit. Your best deal would be to arrange some sort of compensation, this isn't a free display of your work as you intended. If you genuinely don't want personal financial compensation then arrange for a charitable donation of some form.

Ironic that the music industry wants to sue everyone for downloading an mp3 but they steal from artists all the time.

Moroder=normalhead-wannabe-hipster cred, grab it for teh fame :D

Even though he was active when I was very young so that I had to rediscover him, I still beat Daft Punk to it ;)

If they absolutely refuse to give _proper_ credit, you should contact a solicitor. As long as you can show the IP is yours they'd be interested. If you absolutely refuse to get any money out of this, you can give it all to the solicitor. ;)

Nah, seriously I hope you get it sorted with the VJ. Make sure you are credited before him in all material derived.

If you want my straight opinion he shouldn't be credited for anything at all.

"I want credit for asking to get a music video for free" sounds so very zero-effort.

Wow.

Drift, and others, just to put in writing as stated:

This is a miscommunication and an error, and not in any way a political maneuver to screw anyone. I'm an artist and a manager. We're on the favorable side of artists and artistry, including graphic artists and designers.

I will make sure to discuss with the artist directly. I would appreciate discretion on behalf of giorgio at this point.
Quite fast response time, i give you that. Hope this can be sorted out.

Wrong choice of phrase. Especially when it involves members of a worldwide community of tech savvy types. Any discretion/restraint is out of respect for ASD.

Yes, I am hopeful that this can be sorted out so that all parties involved are satisfied.

I am a fan of Giorgio Moroder and I wish for him to have no bad publicity attached to his new project. Having said that, this is Sony/RCA we are talking about here not some small time record label. I am surprised that the proper communication and contracts were not arranged before the video was released publicly.

I think the real slap in the face is the amount of creative credit this so-called video director is claiming. He had zero input to the direction of Spin by ASD.

What the hell does this even mean?

And chill with the burning pitchforks people, it looks like steps are made to resolve the issue, let's not make the world think we're a bunch of shitheads.

I wonder if there is a forum where pro musicians complain about their stolen tracks, like "fuck, we just found this VIP2 invitation demo which plays our tune and we did't know shit about it!" :)

dixan: Unfair, we don't make money with demos :)

Obviously it's hard to contain any outburst on twitter, but we are in touch with Giorgo's rep and we're sorting it out.

I find it interesting that on youtube the text says:
"Music video by Giorgio Moroder performing 74 Is the New 24. (C) 2014 Giorgio Moroder Music LCC under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment Sweden AB"

no credit atall.. and SONY? the company who sues people for downloading mp3's..

well well..

Please no please. Bring Clark: http://vimeo.com/m/111743736
Have fun explaining why is navis is running on Moroder's video. Also, aren't most of the models from that demo under licenses as well?

...as in "not public domain" / "free for profit".

Nice to see a solution is being worked on.
Please keep in mind that you're dealing with a commerical party. Sony is not in it for the fun.

See, if by now you don't even know that ASD is a group of people and you're trying to throw blankets over "a miscommunication" (read: legal fuck-up), you're not exactly doing the situation any favour.

xernobyl, Spin contains 2 bvh animations that are free and provided by the Second Life community. Everything else is modeled by either Navis or ch3.

I have no idea who this "directed by Jai Lewis" is (other than he put some lame filters on a bad rendering of our demo "Spin"), and definitely nobody asked for my (or any other ASD member) permission. What the fuk !?

Oh my! I saw that video yesterday, and read something like "created with help of ASD" and thought "strange, all seen before, not even one new scene... hurry? no time to create new content?". Why? Why?

Occam's Razor to the rescue... Demoscene content stolen!

I posted before reading all the thread, now I read in aMUSIC's posts that Jai Lewis contacted him and somehow he misunderstood him.

Anyway, you should speak with G. Moroder instead of this "director".

:)
