Are ya jelly ringo?
Very much so. I sure as fuck wish I could convince a bunch of people to 'donate' 25000 to 40000 odd pounds to a project for me to remix/remake an album I've already made (including owning the rights to and being able to mix it myself). And convince them that session musos are going to cost that much.
Fuck yeah.
Go make a remix about it... (and see if you can convince some)
^ I think Matt Gray may have some copyright issues with your suggestion.
i don't see the problem here... at all. If he can get backing (and he can, currently it's at almost 40.000 GBP) then more power to him.
About the copyrights, i again have to point http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMJjqVB9JCM vs http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=NBeiRu6CquA#t=30 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQD_wo9oX4g vs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF9fkw99k7s ;)
The only thing that matters is whether there are enough people who like your stuff and trust that you'll deliver, to support your project to the amount specified.
Whether the sum is an over- or underestimate, or whether *you* like his stuff and trust he'll deliver, is not really relevant. If you don't think his stuff is good, or if you think he's a scammer, you should man up and say so, but it's too late now to hurt his KS project. He has lots of fans who trust he'll deliver, and that's something we can all be jealous of, I think. ;) Or find out, via a KS project. Maybe we'd get surprised!
Now, the potential fanbase of gamer nostalgia is huge, and he's cashing in on that. Some people see a moral problem here, I don't. Probably fans asked him. Should he ignore fans and not give them what they want?
Stretch goal. He wants money to make SID tunes again. Moral outrage? Well, that depends on whether you think any of the scene stuff made is, or should be, good enough to dare to charge money for. You can also go Stallman and say that it doesn't really matter how good anything is unless it's completely free, in order to perhaps exclude your own stuff from comparison.
So he was not as good as Hubbard/Galway/Tel etc. So one suspects that he won't need to hire professional musicians at great expense. Still I think fans will get stuff they'll like. Good for him, good for them!
