Commodore 64 demos in .T64 - recommendations

category: general [glöplog]

Hello. Since I didn't found any topic talkin about it, I just wanted to open up this new bbs thread.

If you wanna recommend here some demos for Commodore 64 that are released as T64 files (tape images) feel free to post here - as both pouet or csdb links.

Personally, I wanted to open this BBS because I wanted to know from you experienced people what are the best things to see for me as I recently got a C64C with a 1530 tape drive. I know that most of the newest C64 demos are in d64 format (disk images) but at the moment I can't get yet a 1541U-II or similiar device for read those files (will get it at some point however)

You could do a search for one-file demos on CSDB and then use a disk tool to extract the prg files and then create a .T64 image from those. Most bigger demos in the last 20 years require a disk drive.

*.t64 is always onefiler, like *.prg too
any *.d64 with onfiler *.prg can export and you can convert ist to t64 or wav file (prg to wav) and execute it on real hardware of you record a real tape.
use "DirMaster" to open and convert your *.d64

This might come in handy.

Somewhat misleading, as t64 files can virtually hold any amount of files.

Also keep in mind, that tape loading without a speed loader is extremely slow (~60ish bytes per second), so you might wanna start with 256byters and such. ;)

Actually I'm using the GUI of WAV-PRG which, everytime I put a T64 (or even a PRG file, damn why I didn't notice that!) file into a WAV file (ready to be recorded on a tape deck) it puts also a fastloader on it. So no problem :)
