So I just started playing around with Counterparty, which is a kind of point-and-click crypto-currency creating tool that you can use entirely through the web. The tokens it creates ride on top of the Bitcoin blockchain!

Rez: No, you don't have to mine or anything like that. That's the beauty of these meta-layers, they just sit on top of an already mined currency (Bitcoin and Dogecoin in this case). If you want to create a new token of your own, it's simple: Click the 'Address actions' drop down in the upper right, select 'Create a token (asset)', choose a name, the amount you want to issue and whether the asset is divisible or not and click 'create token'. That's it. You'll need some BTC+XDG to pay a small one-time transaction fee though.

gaia: ho, so the total value and amount of DEMOSCENE currency is definitly fixed, we just can exchange it with people, but the value will never increase, right?

rez: The total amount is fixed, yes -- it's a divisible asset though, so feel free to give someone a tenth of a whole demoscene :)

As for value - right now it would be extremely dubious to claim that it has any, but that's contingent on demand. What would drive demand for DEMOSCENEs in this case? Huh, nothing except bragging rights I guess. And like I alluded to, more concrete things to use them for may well manifest shortly.
