Intel OSX demoscene releases
category: general [glöplog]
Hi,
we would like to watch some (Intel based) OSX demos on real hw and we're stuck because lot of demos labeled as OSX on pouet doesn't have a proper file for download (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=18342 and http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=7138 as examples), is there some OSX demoscene portal somewhere or is there another way to find out the right files around?

there was mac.scene.org at some point, but it stopped being updated and is now down, probably for good.
those 2 demos you mentioned were ported while Tiger OS was the norm running 32bits. newer macs (and their latest OS) run at 64bits. they probably need a universal recompile.

Intel Macs could run PPC prods up to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). After that Apple removed the Rosetta translation layer.
macintosh - where everything just works(tm).
So, it is about trying. Thanks for replies, we've found few nice demos that run.
If you're not afraid of Makefiles and SDL, many of our blurbs can be easily recompiled for OSX/Intel. The source is there. As a matter of fact, I've already done it, but just never uploaded them anywhere :)

No, those things are ok, we will give it a try, thanks!
This will save you some time and effort (never got around to actually publishing the collection):
svn://www.kameli.net/marq/autopsy
Some minor tweaking of pre.mk and post.mk should be enough. I've compiled them on Lin/OSX/Raspi pretty recently.

Real Mac DemoScene was PPC OSX-Demoscene...but that was long ago and did have so much real AAA titles. It would be nice if the PPC get's a revival...but I don't see that coming...perhaps the layers for teh intro/cracktro remakes could be portet to PPC/OSX, but I don't think this will (ever) happen.
so my G4-PPC-Mini has to play some AmigaOS-Demos in Morphos :)

As they say: Go make a demo about it!
