I'll talk to him tomorrow - even after we sorted things out I don't think I'm his fave person atm.... not all bad from this thread then. Cheers.
It's bedtime for me - I've got an early start tomorrow.

So I figured I'd wait and post on this if it still existed when I got up again ... but might as well now seeing it sounds like you've checked out already. :-/

You just have to have some patience I think. The scene is a smattering of people with a lot of different interests even across the same-seeming sorts of things (writing demos, doing artwork, music, etc.) Someone would have replied eventually and honestly, I think ... just gotta keep going at it even if you think you're the only one really bothering. I've had threads elsewhere where I'm pretty much the only one posting in it, but others saw it (and value in it) that I knew of. I've found doing the content-less bump / "trolling" (fishing sense) for comments doesn't really get the kinds of responses I really wanted anyway.

But really I wouldn't give up on these guys for being [brutally] honest. I've got two prods that got "nice first attempt" and pity thumbs as well as plenty of downvotes. Even a guy who decided I was wasting my time helping someone else so he decided to wander on over to my productions and waste his own time just to post "...". Who cares? :) (Though I do feel a bit bad about the reply to bagnz0r on the one, since I really could have done something about it in the most of a year since the party, but that's besides my point.)

As to me, I do key fobs and other laser cut stuff (awards for scenecompos.net contests). That thread is mostly me, and it's not a prod, but one person thought it was really cool how I "bridged the gap" between the virtual/digital stuff people do and the physical world. (I still find that particular comment odd, because it's just stuff I like to do ... but if he thinks it's cool, great!) I think it'd be neat (great) to do a prod people really like, but that's just not my thing right now. I try but if I really wanted to, I've got a long way to go. Instead, I just keep doing laser stuff.

You just have to find your bit and go with it. :) I didn't set out to do laser cutting stuff, and certainly not laser cut scene-related stuff but it just kinda wandered its way there. As Red would say, "Remember, I'm pulling for ya. We're all in this together." and "Meanwhile, keep your stick on the ice."
and of course, three posts between when I start typing and when I finish. I need a brain enhancer. That or to go to sleep. That whole start of work thing is a problem when you're a night owl. :P :)

To be a bit more concise - my isolation is both geographical and social. I live in one of the most isolated state capital cities on earth. I'm also a geek. I have a moderately rich social life but... not really with "like minded individuals" if you get my meaning.

Make the effort to get to a party once a year. I'm sure you can fix up both the budget and the family side for 3-4 days in a year, and you'll get a proper chance to be yourself and be among your own kind of people. It'll be totally worth it.

There really are only a few people on this site who regularly behave like wankers - either towards me or sometimes newbies. They know who they are.

I know exactly what you mean, yet I've met some of the people I've thought of like this at parties before, and found out they're really good, pleasant people. I mean, I've literally gone from "this guy is a complete arsehole" to "hey I like this guy" after meeting them face to face.

Not to say there are no wankers in the scene, but they're probably not the people on your list. Keep that in mind ;)

Ha! I *knew* procrastinating and reading silly threads on Pouet instead of debugging my demo would be worth the feeling of guilt this entails. I didn't know about Setsuko, her blog and especially her interviews, so thanks for mentioning it!

Damn, more excuses not to code. Uh, Revision is approaching fast...

Funny thing is that ringo's post about Corewar (which i played 15 years ago) is probably the less irrelevant one he posted on pouët! :)

ringo, you seem a pleasant pal (apart from your thousands irrelevant posts) but what others say about contributing to the demoscene! You don't even comment on demos, you come here with your centers of interests and expect others to share them?

So basically until I write a demo you guys wont accept me.

Then again some people have done demoscene related productions and yet aren't still accepted over here... This is a community of people after all.

Fair call. I'll install windows 8.1, and the sdk for dx11.whatever and pay a fuckload of money to microsoft for visualstudio. And then I'll be able to write some demos.

There's Visual Studio Express, and there's many other IDEs (CodeBlocks, e.g.) and compilers (clang, e.g.) and there's OpenGL/SDL for free, if you target Windows. There's also linux, so... where is your argument?

And after having cleared up the narrow-minded development environment issue:

Your narrow-mindedness is actually quite scary.

Who's talking?

Stop whining and stop trolling. You won't improve your acceptance that way. And also, what Gargaj said.

It pretty much boils down to the catch phrase:
"Do you just talk the talk or do you walk the walk ?"

ringo: why don't you put "try to contribute music to a prod" or "code an intro" on your 2o14 do-do-list? well, and doing at least one point of course :) the year has just begun :D
Would be cool to contribute, but only if you would love to spend the time with this. No need to do this just for tokens of trust for legitimate posting random girl threads :)

Sure is, and since the demo machine of the future is the c64, all you need is vice (free) + asm6502.c (free).

Nah, I as usual had a major misunderstanding as usual. I tend to do things like that. and wysiwtf is right, I could always have help for my insignificant prods.

To be honest, I don't know if I'm a scener or not, there seems to be no definitions of one as such.

Maybe it's a bit like The Jargon File's definition of "hacker", you are one when other demosceners consider you to be one. :)
^ Funds, work and leave passes allowing I'll see if I can head over east this year.

To those who are encouraging - cheers. Let's call it a work in progress.

To the detractors - well, I think you've proven my point for me.

Hey also, I mail key fobs anywhere* in the world. :)

* Well except those few countries the US has defined that I'm not allowed to ship to, but you're not in one.
AmcBain, how much do you charge for scenefobs?

I wouldnt mind a SceneSat one.

Will you be at Revision? That's where I'm currently planning to debut them. I have 60 of each design, 120 in total. They'll be in the range of € 3-5/each at the party.* So far the only other person who has any are some prototypes I sent to Ziphoid. If you can't wait, bother him. If you won't/can't be at Revision then perhaps we can work something out. :) You can contact me through my "demogroup"'s website if you think this'll be more involved than a simple thread tangent.

* I haven't forced myself to nail down a price yet but I do have a pretty accurate estimate of cost for one. That spreadsheet just isn't near me as I am typing this (and not out of laziness).
