Sonic 1 and 2 (MD) and Sonic CD were awesome imho. After that ... it sucks. Playing Sonic 2 at the moment on my new everdrive :D

I don't like Sonic games that much. Yep, maybe much cooler looking than Mario, but you run run run and this doesn't motivate you to explore the level like in Mario.
Mario has shrooms, Sonic has blast processing!

I liked Sonic 1, but not the gameplay. It looks like the best main menu ever for a megademo, like sotb... Also the tunes are fantastic. Otherwise what said Optimus, mario better gameplay, but it has nothing on me. (Donkey Kong does)

I really like the old Sonic as a mascott. It's a really distinctive design and stands out from almost all of them. His attitude back then was also a nice contrast to the overly friendly Mario. Yet, Sega managed to completely destroy the brand's worth imho. ;(
While Sonic 1, 2, 3 (MD) are probably the best, Sonic Colours (Wii) and Sonic Generation (360/PC/PS3) are definitely not that bad or even good games in my opinion (give a try). Sonic 4 is a big piece of shit anyway.
