Getting Nature by Vertigo to run
category: general [glöplog]
I've been trying to get Nature by Vertigo, possibly the first ever 3d-accel demo, to run under Windows 7+ x64. Even with a Glide wrapper and Win95 compatibility mode, I get "The procedure entry point DDHAL32_VidMemAlloc could not be located in the dynamic link library DDRAW.dll". As for DOSBox.. I've gotten the VESA/software version running, although it's apparently buggy and missing some 3D features. 320x240 is fast but 640x480 is a little choppy. I haven't gotten 3dfx working in a DOSBox build with Glide emulation - it starts, but it hardly gets past the logo screen.
Anyone else get better results with the DOS/3dfx or Win95 binaries?

Works fine here with the DOSBox SVN-Daum build (http://ykhwong.x-y.net/).
Nice find, but I tried yesterday. It starts in the counting start screen, then black screen and nothing.
Works fine with some glide dos games though. Cool!

You have to wait on the "black" screen for something like 5 minutes..... forgot to mention this :)
Ahhhh
Btw, that dosbox version supports pentium_mmx, very slowly. Ran Heaven7 dos version with 1fps or less :P

OK, if you do actually wait several minutes for the first screen to finish, the rest runs smoothly. I'll attempt a video capture and fix it up so others don't have to suffer. :)
Youtube Got a capture done, the moment I got it uploaded I noticed that you already managed to get yours online.
Anyway, this is a dump from a 800MHz P3 with V2. Still got the source .mp4 @60fps if someone wants it for their collections.

I'll take a look if I can do some patching.
oasiz: You could upload the mp4 to ftp.scene.org (they could put it in /pub/parties/1997/crash97/demo).
Okay so I patched the W32 version to life and it worked fine on my box. Now to test it on some more computers.
Okay, here we go.
Note: the 3dfx version does need a Glide wrapper (e.g. this or this), but you also have to delete the GLIDE2X.DLL from the demo directory first.

Works like a charm on W7, thanks a lot \o/
