dipswitch: you're probably right, even though many people (myself included) have never released anything, probably never will, and don't even think of ourselves as sceners... yet we like to witness the amazing productions you guys keep developing and feel the need to somehow be connected to this community.

I don't know, I'm probably talking out of inexperience here, but if one is not allowed to enjoy the demoscene without being a scener, would be like saying you can't marvel at Picasso's work since you're not a painter. And of course, Pouet is not the demoscene, but it's a significant part of its culture in my opinion.

By the way, I did catch up on scene history and structures some time ago. Thanks for your input.

hey dip, lighten up! a good ol' joke is great once in a while! (like the completely ridiculous 'bass' thing)

and any kind of new 'scener' is nice to have, guys that find the subculture interesting and submit their first tries and guys that obsessivly dig into the past to find out what happened and why (jesus, the latter quite scares me once i wrote that up)

I really wonder what view on the demoscene people have, who mainly got in contact with the demoscene to pouet.net...

I myself got into contact with the demoscene through random encounters with demos or diskmags copied from friend's floppys (Don't Copy That Floppy!).
The texts were considerably less freaky than the average pouet.net thread, that's for sure :)

On that note I'm off to meet Olivia Newton John for a night of telling strangers "Mathew Broderick is in the sewers and if you rescue him he'll give you a kiss". If they don't believe us and refuse to go down there, Olivia will make crying noises and we'll say "It's Mathew Broderick. He's crying because he's scared and lonely". If and when they eventually crawl into the sewers, Paul "Gazza" Gascoigne will jump out and piss on them.
