This is not an improvement. The old site at least had some style to it; this new site seems totally dead. The colors don't work well, and the layout seems really amateurish.
When selecting colors, you should pick a specific saturation and lightness and stick with that as you select different hues. Otherwise, you have jarring "coder colors" like these. There is more to it than that, of course, but the point is that humans interpret colors in terms of hue, saturation, and lightness instead of RGB. http://www.colormatch.dk/ uses the same general principle to suggest sets of complementary colors.
The page layout feels really unbalanced. The design centers the main content block in the center of the screen, but then it offsets the text within that block. Then, the menu bar uses totally different margins than everything else on the page. This is all really disorienting, and leads to the "dead" feel.
This is all just my opinion. If you think I'm talking bs, just ignore me.
But... The is one genuine bug. If you open the page in Firefox, you get a huge amount of blank space at the bottom of each page that shouldn't be there. Hope all this helps.

i sortof have to agree with that - the new site design seems suboptimal.
I agree with s_tec. I like the old site much better :-)
i think noone cares much of design as long as there are valid download links ^^. i think you should try "lynx friendly" style XD
The design is vanilla.
The page is not usable without the images or without Javascript. The HTML markup does not validate.
The table based and JavaScript design of the menu is useless and waste 5 Kb of HTML + 36 Kb of JS, while the HTML page weighs 21 Kb. ... so it takes 41 Kb for a menu that is not accessible. Actually it would take no more than 6-7 Kb to do the same thing with just HTML+CSS and the menu would be accessible.
under pressure is not that wrong. Web standards are made to be used. And when used correctly they make web pages accessible and smaller.
This is just my opinion and this is not my website.

And once the website is accessible in Lynx, you've come a long way. Adding a nice design on that clean HTML markup is the cherry on the cake and shouldn't be too long.
seeing my graphic being used for testing at least improves the overall pathetic look of this design! :PPP
Set padding-left on "central" to 3 or 4 px.
Also:
The right side of the image and the right side of the menu bar should be lined up. Same with "central" div except left.
There is also like 1000px extra height to the site in Firefox (and maybe other browsers). I would suggest making the hugi logo clickable to go to home.
Otherwise the design is extremely boring.

damn, seeing my graphic being used in this thread, surely improved the overal pathetic bullshitting in this thread too :D
Thank you all for your feedback! We might make the Hugi Website skinnable so that you can select your favourite layout.
BTW, the new design is updated almost daily, so keep checking out http://www.hugi.scene.org/new-preview/ - some changes have been just made!

why are all the logos, flags, texts, etc. so blurry?
What browser are you using, Rasmus?
firefox
rasmus: are you using the hypnoglow plugin by any chance?
only the flags are blurry for me.
The design of the site has hardly changed. There's just a second logo in the right columns and another picture above the news.
:\ Before putting this version online, you should ask a web-designer to work on a design 1 day or 2.

Not pretty.
Basically the site is flipped over, and that's not a good thing. It would make slightly more sense if some form of useful navigation / linkfest would be in the right column of the content area, but there's not.
Most of the navigation is crammed in pulldown menus, with the notable exception of the contact link, which looks just like the other links (with pulldowns). Some people could get a little confused by this slight lapse in familiarity.
Oh, and despite what some people might tell you, it doesn't hurt to validate your markup.

this page: http://www.hugi.scene.org/new-preview/main.php?page=banner .. looks fucked up in 1024x768 :)
The latest update to http://www.hugi.scene.org/new-preview/ has brought a lot of changes, it now looks completely differently, so please check it out again!
Check your borders:

MadenMann: It looks similar on my system. Well, the content of the left 'window' (with the main text inside) should perhaps have a slightly larger distance to its right border. Thank you for pointing this out!
the first version was better.
I think news that is more than a couple months old should be considered "old news". I suggest shortening the list on the front page.
Patrick Groove: This will happen.
ha ha ha ! every time i see those right menu buttons i think "am i running aDDict ? .. wait a min... o_O".
background "♀ hugi" logo looks too cheap. try blurring it or shade it properly... well ask graphicians ;)
