Evoke 2013 - in August, just like every year!

category: parties [glöplog]
For the loudness, I think BP 2010 still takes the cake - perfect amount of so loud that shouting "hallo!" actually resulted in a "was?!" - on the other hand it was nice to have proper discussions inside than to always walking outside =)
Coming from the guy that had four speakers and a sub to blast the area with http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=18741 at evoke (tyty Blindy/CME) :)

yet another thing: set up a local irc server and announce it on the bigscreen.

- My fault: I didn't make sure we would get proper ircnet access in time.

So yeah, I think they're aware of the issue :)

Outdoor BBQ and friday/saturday night DJ sets were a blast as usual, and so was the newly-introduced kids corner (which was mainly used by the grown-up ones ;)
Thanks for sponsored free fruit/food/drinks, too - missed the Mettbrötchen, though ;o)

Special thanks to ATW for providing proper party volume levels ;D

About the toilet: It was in acceptable condition all the time, but dropping the paper towels directly next to the sink is sort of pointless - c´mon, use your brain, guys and make sure that it stays in a place where it does not get completely soaked after a few seconds!

@metoikos: you might also try "vorstadtprinzessin" for contemporary non-carnivore food, it´s just 5 mins from the party place in the other direction :)

@Cocoon: "Evoke winter edition" is already over-fulfilled by tUM ;D

Regarding network fuckups: stop complaining, it´s an expected traditional part of any evoke (ike the timetable delays are for every other proper german party ;D)
Real party is outside anyway (yet party irc would be nice if sometimes)

The visitor count was surely boosted by people only visiting saturday evening - mostly friends and curious locals, but a lot of real sceners with time constraints did that, too.

I forgot: PA was decent, too - completely different story than the 'good' old Vulkanhalle honkers.

jco: i can assure you that fucking tearing line hunts us in our nightmares...

i wish it is as easy as switch "force vsynch on" in the driver settings.
it is not :(
it is not visible on the mirrored displays up in the orga area, but it is on the projector.

we tested everything on thursday evening.
we were sure there is no fucking tearing this time.
but then it was on friday or saturday...

well i guess the solution is to put everything up on day earlier and test the shit out of it. restarting the whole setup a few times.

(if someone has some ideas that go further than "force vsynch on", please contact me via email.)

anyway, thank you all for coming and releasing!

pandur: i can imagine it being a pain - kinda ridiculous that this is still such a problem nowadays, with digital display interfaces and everything... so, no offense meant :)

disregarding the obviously different views on what constitutes a "visitor" to evoke i can tell you first hand that we have a pretty clear idea of how many people had a wristband (like tobi said) and how many of them were paying visitors. not to boast but the increase of visitors from last your should be recognizable in the prizemoney we gave out as well (since we (by law) must not make any kind of profit by organizing evoke and give out all the surplus as prizemoney, we have to have a very clear idea on what we got with tshirt-sales and entrymoney by sunday morning).

for what it's worth, here is a somewhat current list (sunday night, about 3am) of who was registered in partymeister. it says:

Code: 201 visitors registered Germany 133 France 18 Netherlands 11 Denmark 7 European Union (EU) 6 Finland 5 Sweden 3 United Kingdom 3 United States 2 Switzerland 2 Poland 2 Hungary 2 Austria 2 Belgium 1 Russian Federation 1 Italy 1 Ireland 1 Norway 1

considering that "some" people do not register on partymeister, or do so only for voting/uploading (and we know how that went...). i'd say its a really fair guess that there were somewhat more people than that.

apart from that and hopefully as a final word to this discussion: noone in the evoke organizer team cares about being second, first, third or even least biggest demoparty on whatever scale you would love to apply. we love to have people over, everyone of you.

we love to give back by paying prizemoney and by creating a nice athmosphere. we have not been faking visitor-counts and do not have to...noone was trying to be the best/biggest/hippest/coolest/fastest whatever anyhow. we do what we do, and we hope you like it.

judging from the general gist of the comments here that seemed to be the case, so we are happy, and you are happy. be you 50 or 500...we do not care.

It was one of the best weekends of my life, amazing organization, mind blowing compos and so many awesome people to talk to. Winning the Newcomer Award was really overwhelming, thanks so much for the recognition, it means a lot.

They really did try. I saw at least two different organizers on two different occasions, try to get the roll of paper towels fitted into the dispenser on the wall. Both in vain. I think the venue must accidently have purchased the wrong dimension of paper towel rolls. That's hardly to blame on the organizers ;)

Yeah, also the locations fault: The bin for the paper towels was way too small ;) resulted in towels flying around everywhere.

Nevertheless: great party! Thanks for making all that possible.

My two cent...

...on volume: The upper midrange frequencies occasionally pained my ear (both right in front of the screen and back at our table), but otherwise I think the volume was dandy and I could enjoy the compos in front of the screen mostly without earplugs ;)

...on paper towels: A concerted effort by both me and reloc0 actually managed to fumble a roll of towels into the dispenser, but it's less than intuitive, especially in a state of intixication, or not giving a crap, or both. We might be inclined to laser up a simple stand for the rolls so they don't get soaked next year ;)

...on the party per se: <3

Gonna be there next year for sure, hopefully with a release ;)

I appreciated the manageable noise level for the compos as did Dr Claw.
I have nothing to say apart from it being an awesome party - never been to Evoke before and I had a blast, so would just like to thank all the organizers who must have had a hellish job doing all that work sober. Thanks to Dino and Susencrusen who lured me there during Kindergarden Fjeldabe edition using soft promises of cold beer and the chance to use my large arsenal of german-jokes :)

Also shout outs to all the new and old friends I met there, and see you at TRSAC - we have no special treatment for girls or children though - they all get to experience the same horrific scenes of drunk grown men dancing in the organizer area :) However this year we have turned the entire party hall into an VIP area.. so there's a pepperschnapps for everyone who brings a release :)

Wait. Wasn't there a party rule according to which an attendent HAD to ACCEPT at least ONE Pepperschnaps when ( inevitably ) being offered one by the organisers ?

More fantastic Evoke pix have been provided by ted - starting on page 3
releases are now complete on scene.org

dodge: that rule is still in effect - bring a release and you get TWO!

(we MIGHT subtly be hinting at the fact that we have never tried that anyone really wanted more than one or two and as such are free to have that :D)

It's not that "they" (the stove-pipe-hat & horsemask wearing organisers) come to you with that stuff. The moment you come to the infodesk to receive your wristband, you'll be in for the ringer :D

oh look.. it's that chilischnapps that the GERMANS brought =)

True. Thus my statement wasn´t directed towards the organizers, but to generally everyone who did not leave the paper roll in a safe spot after using it themselves instead.
