Now that we have pouet 2.0 ...

category: general [glöplog]
... is there any easy way to integrate a fourth way of commenting on prods without voting at all? The reason is that I have to piggy my own prods when I want to answer comments and I don't like that. Thumbing up is no solution because you will be hated at pouet when you thumb up you own stuff.

Not speaking for Gargaj here, but since some sort of credits system might happen in the future (for linking individual pouet users to prods), I suppose one could exclude such linked users from vote counting.
I hope that happens, would be awesome.

Just thumb up your prod if you like it. I have, and I'm still waiting for the AWFUL PUNISHMENT from stiff-upper-lip scene police. Haters will hate anyway. ;) Those who are annoyed by thumbing up your own prods, deserve to be annoyed. Though of course if you hate your prod, by all means thumb it down.

I had the same idea a few months back. Being able to post/edit commentary on your own prods would be wonderful.

The best fix for this is to stop worrying about thumbs at the micro-level, and mentally add a "+/- 10%". That way, as well as not being bugged by your own un-votes, you'll also not be bugged by the piggies/down-thumbs from 1) trolls 2) attention whores 3) people saying "doesn't work on my pc" / "video plz" 4) people who were disappointed that it wasn't Debris Part 2 5) that guy who posts one-word comments that are sometimes quite complimentary but rarely accompanied by a thumb 6) that guy looking for help getting DMA to work in mode 3 on his Sinclair C5.

Sure, we're not robots and we all like a bit of personal validation. But you can get that from the general swing of the votes, and the substance of the (genuine) comments.

Where did this rule of not self-thumbing come from? What is the rational basis for it?

Your premise is wrong: you don't need a technical solution, you just need to stop giving so many fucks (about the haters, it's fine that you care what actual people think).

It would be LE FORMIDABLE if pouet user_id was linked to prods credits, instamagically a LOAD of unwanted piggies will disappear! <3

Ho, and credits on prod will give some glöps too? :3

You guys and your internet points.

gasman: you forgot the guy who absolutely loves your demo and goes on about it but forgets to thumb anyway :) (pixtuuurrrr! :D)

but yeah, in all seriousness, it's just pouet, there's no reason to take it seriously. Any comment and feedback is great, really, and you can just mentally subtract your own piggy :L)

Does this mean you get double the points if you were also the uploader of your prod? ;)

it's in the plans and now that the codebase is not nauseating, i can see it happening.

But no, on topic, I don't really have a huge opinion on selfvoting. It's usually just one vote and if the prod sucks, it won't matter much either way. Really not worth the effort to write code against it.

my evoke anim release was at 100% thumbs up and i piggied myself in order to say some stuff about it. and i didn't care at all.

nevertheless, saga's suggestion is good imho.

Yeah, but there are users out there that give you a thumb-down when you thump-up your prod and that's what sucks.

When you get a thumb down just to make you feel bad that is even worth. You can see that here and here..

I can fix code. I can't fix people.

2.0 was the big codebase and database upgrade, guess we have to wait for 3.0 for the userbase upgrade.

Gargaj: Perhaps if we could down-vote users, the problem would solve itself? :)

Can the auto-quote link insert quotes with a "by" line?

Ex:
[ quote ][ b ]by Username:[ /b ]
This is the quoted text here.
[ /quote ]

or something of that sort. Might be easier/simpler to do than changing (fixing?) the bb-code support to handle things like [quote=Username] even though that could allow the generator to change the top so it says "Quote by Username:" above the box instead.

I do it by hand now, as I figure it'd be nice for other people to know exactly who I was quoting to make it easier to go back up and find it.
