Fake effects

I can answer easily. Where did you see cool designers and animators?
I just love ZX Spectrum 48/128 - the machine of my youth years. I love the demoscene subculture. I love to make graphics looks cool at ZX Spectrum. I love to imagine videoeffects for ZX and realize it with my friends (no matter with code or with animation). I don't need to learn new hardware to be happy, and i don't need the animations fests because i don't claim to be the cool animator.

diver,
1. What I said.
2. I'm not going to advertize bloated hardware for capitalist pigs.
3. I'm already spending half of my life in linguistics, only one half left.

Tomoya, if you read your quote thoroughly, you'll notice:
1. Running in real-time.
2. To show off programming skills in the first place.
Yeah, but it doesn't say that pre-rendered animations are forbidden, does it? :)
We're talking about those being a part of the demo, not the whole thing.
diver, in your youth years you made graphics look cool, yeah. At PENTAGON with 200% bright. Now you don't either.

doesn't executable that shows pure animation run real-time and require programming?
Alone_Coder, i never had a Pentagon. And seems that only you bother what i'm doing now :) That is pretty funny.
diver, what ZX Spectrum 48/128 you had in your youth years with so extraordinary bright level?
Alone_Coder, LOL, why it does matter?
Alone_Coder, seems that you can't answer question №3. Do you afraid to say that you're just love the platform? Or you don't love it?
Alone! Show me the fucking cool demo full of animation, and I'm happy. I will not speculate how this is done in code, if it will affect my feelings.
Demo - this is for the senses, not for brainfucking viewers...

diver, I love ZX Spectrum and I'll keep it alive, not frozen (which you want).
frozen? what is it?
The impressiveness of the code depends on the achievement gained in displaying the animation. Plotting uncompressed frames to the screen on a pc would be lame, however using limited hardware and packing and depacking animation data (whether its vector based or some type of transform/vq etc) is something completely different.
If doing the demos and gfx for ZX Spectrum 48/128 is "to froze" it - yeah. I will continue to fuckin "froze" the ZX Spectrum 48/128. LOL.
diver,
>LOL, why it does matter?
Because you had Scorpion 256K at least since 1998. Googling is so easy now...

And? Having Scorpion 256K is a crime? :)
+1

I can use some of my technologies in gamedev although it's slower than making demos.
That's actually a pretty neat idea. And like you point out it provides a real need/benefit for certain types of realtime effects. Speccy gamedev is quite active already but maybe the games aren't always that impressive from a tech perspective. Sometimes they have pretty cool gameplay ideas though. Maybe if you collaborated with some of those guys you could make a game where both are up to a high standard. Get some nice gfx, music, sfx and... awesomeness will ensue. Demoscene people might not be too interested but thanks to emulators, memory card interfaces and so on you might potentially have a much larger audience than any demo ever could. Games have much wider appeal.
In fact I've been kinda expecting a resurgence of new games for vintage platforms for a while now. Certain types of games for certain platforms might even be financially viable endeavours. Probably not on the speccy though. But that's really something for the capitalist pigs anyway...
you have to take more aspects of the production into account when judging demos. What you see on screen and what you hear is only part of it. no spinning cubes are gonna trick you if you have to flip disks while loading it.
if voters can't make a valid technical judgement out of ignorance (i.e. judging on a technical basis while really having no idea), fuck'em. if they don't because they don't care, they have all my love and bear hugs.
as some mentioned it's not easy to draw a line anyway.

Is the whole speccy-scene like this dude ?
Alone demagogy again... In Perm we all was only Profi 256-1024 and Scorpion 256 (no one Pentagon). And that is why we are always oriented by the standart 128K machine - not new spectrum-"compatible" monsters, that emulated only in your version of Unreal. Most of our demos are working on any 128K-machine.
Demo is not only code - its mix of music, design, gfx,fix and code. If you can only make nice code - your way to 128b-1k intros
Sry guys for bad english.

I think every platform has people like that.
So, yeah, don't judge the whole community from what one dude says :)
<racist prejudice>its only dem russian speccy sceners!</racist prejudice>

Tomoya, I want real demoscene with real demos and real coders.
I'm gonna start my own demoscene! With hookers! And Blackjack!
