Maybe we all need to call it a day and go back to the topic in a week or so.
Why? If this was in the real world, no one would accept someone just moving into your house and taking it over. "Let's just let them live there for a week and then we'll come back and have a talk about it". No thanks. I'm pretty outraged by this, even though I can see I'm among the minority. It still doesn't make it any more okay just because a group of outspoken few are the only ones to react.
The only real question here is: what should happen? Not if, not when, but what.

<snip>...and comments, but if you don't want to do that, then <link to a post>this sums it up nicely</link to a post>.
Which btw, points to TWO bugs now... links to posts are not valid if your posts-per-page settings are different than mine (I only have 9 pages while you seem to have at least 29)... I'd change my posts-per-page settings but (bug #2) account2.php is a 404 now.
gloom:
No, you are not, you are just mouthing it louder than the rest, but I'm sure many of us feel like that. I do, at least.

I haven't spoken yet, but: what gloom said. I guess there are many others here that don't speak, but also don't agree at all with this coup.
analogue, pouet and demoscene would be better off without you, please go away permanently.
Quote:
why are you 100 times more buthurt than anyone else about all this?
He's not.
Get off your butts and chime in people! If the future of pouet matters to you, speak up!
Yeah, Gloom is not the only one not liking this development. And what has happened here (the way it happened) is not ok.
An yes, I know, I'm a friend of Gargaj, I'm a member of the Scene.org staff and I used to put some pictures of Slengpung every now and then until I got fed up with the interface.. That still doesn't mean I don't have my own opinions. And my opinion right now is that I don't want to stand for this shit.

I wont move into the discussion, but I am one of the "silent" ones that also is not approving of the things that have happend.
This doesn't mean that I agree 100% with all Glooms statements.
I know that there are more "silent" people who are not fond of this too.

my suggestion: let analogue, lator, dubmood and adok keep on using pouet0.9 together so they can keep on circle jerking and everyone else moves to pouet2.0
Basically, what Puryx said. I'd rather this was all worked out amicably, but if we're forced to wave a flag and pick a side, I'm totally behind Gargaj. I've kept quiet because I couldn't think of anything overly productive to add to the debate, other than a "yeah, me too post". So here's the post.
+1 for gargaj.
This thread sad, for everyone. So I'll be quick and get out.
This thread no longer feels productive or the best medium for working this out. Those key to resolving this have already left the table. It is likely they feel this thread is proof all calm, rational dialogue has been exhausted.
Thank you, and take care.

What Puryx said. I'm not really one to enter these discussions, but I'm glad gloom is, and I do agree what most of his points in this thread.
As I mentioned in the fix me beautiful thread:
I would like to see the people back in charge who were in charge a week ago.
Maintaining this site is for sure not the most relaxing thing you can do in your free time and gargaj did a extremely good job over the last couple of years IMHO.
So here it goes:
+1 for Gargaj [& "unkown others"]. (Restore credentials & Give some proper hugs for doing a hell of a good job)
-1 for Analoque. (Remove all credentials. You lost my respect - even if you did something totally awesome by bringing pouet.net to life.)
Scene.org staff/redhound: Please act quickly - otherwise this could escalate even further and that's not necessary - it's enough.
To the others, who are not so much involved: You either get your ass up and start helping (If you find something buggy / exploitable - well patch it and give it to the person[s] in charge) OR get your damn demoscene productions done properly.
END OF TRANSMISSION.

I couldn't disagree more. There is only one person who can solve this issue and that person is Analogue. What's being written in this thread is exactly what he needs to read and understand. Unfortunately it looks as if he's not interested in hearing what the people he supposedly wanted to help have to say, and that leaves us - the people in this thread - the active Pouet community - to make ourselves heard.
This thread is what Analogue should have started BEFORE he did any changes. The fact that it exists and that people contribute to it is a testament to doing community changes THE RIGHT WAY.
It most certainly feels productive to me, and considering I'm also a participant in discussions outside of Pouet, I can tell you with certainty that it is both rational and needed.
..and as you can clearly see: I'm no the only one who thinks so.
So with the status quo being unacceptable to a pretty large group of people, the question remains: what are we going to do about it?

Full ack.
The current situation is this: The ball is in Analogue's court. He wanted the control and he got it. "Not ok"? Yes, true, the way he handled things sucked and it was not exactly the most collected and reasonable way of pushing things forward. He should have send those new credentials to Gargaj right away, etc. But right now, the issue tracker on github is where it's at, with updates and fixes finally being rolled out (you see that at the very bottom of the page?) and a mediocrum of progress happening, right now.
Meanwhile people still go on and on about v2, which is broken, incomplete, slow and questionable in its approach and structure, with nobody willing to work on it. No one has stepped forward, while 5 people forked the old code on github. Sorry to say, but at this point, v2 is an incomplete v1.1a and looks very much DOA or at the very least has a long way to go. There's not point in advocating a roll-out of v2 at this time.
So the only thing you can still discuss here is how much Analogue sucks for assuming control of the project the way he did. Fine, you did exactly that for many, many pages. And I understand the outrage too. But at some point you need to move on. Which means: a) let it go, b) work on the current code base or c) make v2 awesome so it might be an alternative later or d) work on something else.
Gloom: What about this?
Since breaking out from the supposed silent majority is all the rage:
I'm mostly with gloom and dipswitch.
Also: Analogue, it's not your site anymore. It was your baby, but you left it at an orphanage and went away. In the meanwhile we've had both code maintainers, admins and data submitters putting in the hours to nurture this baby. Now you're coming back and fucking up for everybody.
The problem with your second coming is that no matter how hard you try to be a good father now, your baby will have but one question in it's head: "When are you going to abandon me again?".

tomaes: the ball is not in analogues court - it's on ours. He's currently losing the community and the only thing he has left is the database which he's not giving up - not exactly an unsolvable problem.
The real question is - will people care enough to show him the door or will it end in the sadly too often shown apathy/disinterest of the community.

Damn, I wish I could code to help you. If this ever becomes reality, please integrate music as well, so that all releases of a party can be presented at a (single) page.
gaspode: well, that's what demozoo is for :)
gasman: hurry up already ;)

Just a question: Who owns the domain name pouet.net?
Adok: Laurent Raufaste.

My post probably wasn't clear about that -- I'm completely with you on this, I too think it's an outrage and we can't just go on pretending that nothing happened.
I'm just a firm believer that when emotions boil, overreactions happen that do more harm than good -- as seen in analogue's behavior.
That's why I suggested trying to calm down, on either side of the frontlines, and trying to come to terms with each other again. I know this sounds like "why can't we all just be friends" and all, but I think putting some distance between ourselves and our spur-of-the-moment emotions can at least prevent us from doing things we might regret later.
That said, I think the last thing we need is a fork, but in case we have no other choice, the sourcecode is open and Gargaj seems to have a rather recent DB dump.
I for my part am not going to contribute to pouet for the foreseeable future until this is resolved one way or another. I have to add that "analogue realizing the way he fucked up and apologizing" would also be a way of resolve for me.
I dont care, if feelings have been hurt by analogue. If the actions of him are causing actual upgrades to the site, I am perfectly fine with that. And if the code and database of Pouet are not designed by the book: Who cares. It is a small website in the end which doesnt need to be maintainable like big projects, which are used by millions of different users on thousands of hosters. "Quick and dirty" solutions are enough for very small projects like Pouet.
