here are some real cool and hip ideas:
boing ball(amiga references are still cool stuff)
ribbons(fairlight never used this effect)
twister(none of the oldschool demos have this effect)
LUT-effect(none of the 90s demos had these!)
legomen(this wasn't popular in the 2000s)
metal/pirate music(you don't hear this in the assembly music compos)
static objects rotating in front of the screen(you didn't see this in the 90s)
static scenery(panda cube hasn't done this yet!)

you could try raymarching a fractal

or you simply check out demos and create something on your own ;)

something with teal/orange

don't forget to put some blippy bloppy 8-bit sounds to the music. that's really original.

And definitely put in audiovisual glitches and rgb distortion, that's so awesome.
