Revision 2013 - Damages

category: parties [glöplog]
I'm sorry but I need to post some bad news as well, and I'm doing it here so the real thread doesn't get polluted with negative stuff.

This year we have quite some damages done by poor quality stickers and poor decision making by some of you.

Poor quality stickers. These take several minutes to remove EACH!

Pasted sticker over building signs - very hard to remove.

Scribbled on the toilet stall doors with a permanent marker...

What this means for us:
  • To reduce costs, we need to manually remove all stickers - even those people put on INSIDE toilet bowls
  • We'll have a long talk with the hall owners about this and it will not be fun
  • We'll have to pay damages for everything we cannot fix ourselves, which means there's annoying paperwork to be done - not to speak of actual money that'll be lost and not be available next year.

And what it means for you:
  • You will never ever use cheap stickers again
  • You will never again use cheap adhesives on painted walls
  • You will never again use permanent markers to write on something other than our tag walls

If we catch you doing this, you will not be welcome at Revision anymore.

And if you really have the urge to write stuff - use the tag walls - that's what they're for.

Last but not least - here's the list of people who we'll watch very closely next time.
  • TRSI - Removing your cheap-ass stickers will cost us hours of work
  • Prince - You're huge posters caused us damages in 2011 and now again in 2013. If we ever catch you again putting up posters, we will throw you out. I mean it!

I had a blast at this year's party. Let me know if there's any way I can make a donation to help you out.

Are more expensive stickers really easier to remove?
added on the 2013-04-01 19:09:43 by msqrt msqrt
Just leave your f*cking stickers at home? Nobody cares about your group PR bullshit. It's annoying to have people put their damn stickers everywhere - especially if they think it's cool to put stickers on your clothes without even considering to ask you. How funny.
It's even worse if it causes damages.

I thought about this at the party, seeing tons of stickers EVERYWHERE. It must be a shitload of work to remove them and for what cause?

Please let your actual productions do the promoting and quit this bullshit.

I've never understood the sticker thing. Having had my own share of time spent on cleaning and removing party marks from the building, I can only symphatize. And yeah, they're not really all that promoting anyway.

We are sorry for the darklite stickers, will not bring them next year.
As for the posters, i tried to put them up so they were easy to remove. Also did not use gaffa tape, but normal blank office tape.
Our big banners we used gaffa, but on surfaces they would not damage.
Sorry for all the extra work we made for you, we will keep this in mind next time.

However I disagree with las, scene posters and stickers are party tradition and should be allowed, but ofcourse we can take more consideration so not too make permanent damage.

Thanks for an awesome party yet again :)

What about charging TRSI (and other offending groups) members extra entry fee next year? :)

Why don't people remove their own posters & stickers at the end of the party? Why leave it for the party organisers to do?

As for the stickers, I recommend a glue remover... but I realise it's a bit late now. Paint that gets ripped of sucks, one need to repaint that, and often the whole wall not to make it look like a quick fix.

As some said, I hope some donations can be made...

+1 on las. If anything, keep stickers to bottles etc.

But also as tft says, some propagande has always been part of the scene, especially banners.

Damage I had:

Car window broken on Saturday night. Bag with stuff stolen.

Styx and Losso helped out quite quickly. Yet, I have the costs for a new window. And had to drive 440 km with some cartonnage and gafffertape covering the hole.

Security guys told me that the had only 1 guy to guard the parking lot, since the other one scheduled to help with this had been instructed to guard another fire entrance (or something) instead.

Since this was at least the 2nd year in which cars were broken into, when will the security be improved, like... finally?

I know of another car where a window was smashed, that is about enough damage to just leave this here in this thread :) for possible further consideration.

All the other damage caused by stickers and posters and whatever also suck hard anyway. What glxblt said.

Signed.

Especially since stickers and adhesive tape are the cheapest and fastest way for putting stuff up while taking longest for removal, not to speak about damage which easily nullifies any supporter effort.
It´s not just about the time and money lost for other stuff, but also especially about RESPECT towards organizers, supporters and the rest of the visitors.

That said, I hope there will still be entertaining posters and cool stickers next time - but provided in a way which shows responsibility (like some already do), instead of a fire-and-forget manner.

BTW, does someone have that "poo brain" sticker left? If so, I´d be happy to trade it for a beer at Nordlicht, Evoke or Bünzli =)

@Sir: I hope that at least the insurance won´t make problems =/

What glxblt said. And it makes me sorry to read so. :-/

For what it's worth: if you have stickers on glasses (without a sign underneath), go with a razor blade to remove it.

For other stuff, like thec said, use a glue solvant. Even if the sticker is not that hard, it will save you a lot of sweat.

Anyway, next year let's put an IR camera in the parking lot and another one in the sleeping area. :)

Ban on stickers sounds like an excellent idea. Sticking them on walls or furniture is just vandalism, plain and simple.
Las, I've never put a sticker on any item other than my own, I was genuinely wondering :)

But if your group is worth knowing about, most sceners will already know about it, so I'd save the stickers for airport toilets etc. to spread the joy!

Just because we handed out and made stickers doesn't mean we're responsible for people sticking them in idiotic locations.

Also about Prince's obnoxious marketing methods: Haaw Haaw!

My entry in the Ansi competition didn't get a proper thumbnail, so I got no votes. 5th place wtf!

Next time, i will simply print my ANSI and everyone will have to see it as well. But neatly on a piece of cardboard with a stand. :P

Also, i expected this to be around breakpoint already. And i mean the very early ones. Why do this stickers have to be ON FUCKING GLASS DOORS! On delicate WOOD where they are almost impossible to get off without damage.....geez.

Removing them requires either cemicals like silicone thinner or sharp blades....I used to do this as a job. I know how they felt...and still feel...

I don't mind them to be laying on my place or being stuck to my forehead.....

That's pretty normal. Thumbnails or GTFO! Not everyone remembers every graphic (especially in the larger compos), and certainly not everyone is going to download every entry that might be in some obscure format to check it out. Thumbnails help a lot with that.
(That said, previewable music entries would be extra sweet but probably also a lot of work)
Well - quite simple isn't it? Without (also your) stickers - people don't have stickers to stick in idiotic locations.

Tradition? Invalid argument. Better donate the money you wasted for stickers to a demoparty of your choice.

ok, we are getting to a point....

guns don't kill people, people do?

Well, if you want to go on that level - let me ask you a question:
Would you give a drunk person a gun?

There's another way to generate votes without a thumbnail: give away free beer and annoy ppl with constant "advertisement".

On the sticker debate: I like stickers, I like finding a dozillion on my body after leaving the sleeping area, I don't like to see them pasted on everything, especially when there's the (official? [the black blanket]) sticker wall at lé beamteam platform.
