It are the last weeks of school for me.
Today, my art teacher told me that I may make a presentation about digital art.
-> Demoscene presentation incoming.

Any demos you recommend showing?
I thought giving a general overview would make sense...

It's worth defining what your 'goal' is here: are you looking for the best demos, the most artistic ones, the ones which are most representative of typical demo style, or something different?

YouShould / Haujobb is one of the best for capturing the essence of "what a demo is", I reckon.

@gasman: There is no concrete "goal" yet.
However, I think giving a rough overview over the different types of demos would be a good idea.

The current list of (different types of) demos that I >could< show:

- Lifeforce ("artistic")
- You Should ("demoscene-ish")
- debris ("artistic / demoscene")
- Function 2007 invitation ("demoscene / social (demoparty)")
- The Scene Is Dead ("retro")
- Peridiummmm ("tech.")

except both demos you label as 'artistic' arent really 'artistic' at all?!?! yodel - 32 degrees in the shade is what i would label 'artistic'..

I see what you mean... I guess it depends on one's opinion and perception. :)
Okay, maybe not debris, but Lifeforce does have artistic elements.

every demo has artistic elements... but i believe you're trying to point out lifeforce has an artistic narrative.. (whatever the narrative is cos that beats me :D)

as an example for an invitation demo, i would show: the code insight, because it captures the party athmosphere/spirit nicely and is a good example of demoscene aesthetics.

Depends if you want the selection to represent the demoscene itself or the more general artistic qualities of it. If I were to choose demos that in my opinion have the strongest artistic expression it would resemble something like this:

One thing is to demonstrate what demos are. To me this captures what demoparties is all about :-p

Sometimes showing all the typical stuff says everything and nothing. It can also make sense to show what is *not* a demo, since nobody can give a good definition of a demo anyway. Or which demos are "controversial" or don't fit in. I'm thinking about stuff like $. That says a lot about what the demoscene is...
