Revision 2013

No music just tune names and handles shown on screen.
And what's new compared to earlier years? ;D
Music competitions should of course always be anonymous.
So turns out it won't be sceners growing old and losing interest that kills the demoscene.
Xerxes: I am not a GEMA-member. Let me submit your entry as mine and share the prizemoney \o/
So can't you just change your handle and submit your stuff that way??
ton: please read the statement carefully. We have to submit a list of real names to GEMA. So, unless you're willing to change your name, it doesn't matter which handle you use.
Rebb: You mean like the old days of the Eurocharts! Whooop!
sir, i would have no problems with that :) we would not win anything.. but i would buy you a beer for the favor! Hehe..
If you have a brother, sister or family member who is willing to pretend to be a new demoscener for you, then that would probably close enough not to get into trouble.... All genuine details... Not like I'm making a suggestion of how to get around this or anything.....

D.Fox: What would happen if say... some of the participating people had uhm... "sudden compos". Compos that Revision did not arrange?
Puryx: are you proposing to hold all Revision compos in the DUB tunnel? ;)
as a variation to the "silent music compo" suggestion:
play music/demos as usual, but when in doubt that a specific track could possibly be covered by gema just cut the sound and display this text at the bigscreen:

Unfortunately this entry is not available in Germany, because it may contain music that hasn't been properly licensed from GEMA.
We're sorry.
just like youtube does it:
Puryx: if a visitor plays music with their own devices, we cannot be held responsible for that. Just for everything that runs over our equipment.
"silent music compo" made me think of the silent disco concept. Which would actually work as a loophole here, I suspect. I mean, if there was a three minute pause in the middle of the music compo while the URL "http://party.local/entries/xerxes_music_entry.mp3" was displayed on the bigscreen, it wouldn't be the Revision orga's responsibility if everyone spontaneously chose to listen to that track on their own headphones at that moment, right? :-)
Gasman: I'm not sure what the situation is if we'd distribute music from registered artists over our network.
Shit, I just realized that I failed to put the blame squarely on GEMA in my translation. It should better be

D.Fox: Well, I'm throwing ideas... :)
So whenever there's music, you have to be able to prove that it wasn't composed by anyone who's in GEMA's lists, or otherwise you have to pay. Guilty until proven innocent. That sounds fair all right.
How about a compo with GEMA affiliated composers standing on stage, not making a sound? GEMA would have to decide if that silence was actually music, and should be paid for.

Gasman: You'd probably get in trouble for encouraging to illegal activities instead. It seems there's really no workaround, that organizers could arrange for, that wouldn't just put them in trouble with another law/company/organisation.
The suggested solution about musicians registering as their real handle, but register under another person's real name, would remove the problem from Revision organizers, but it'd definitely put yourself in risk of accusations on fraud.
As people earlier wrote, I think the best thing for everyone would be to try and obtain a written waiver from your local BIEM-organisation exempting your participation from normal rules. Only the owner of the rights could legally create such a waiver, and since BIEM-members already bestoved their copyright to an organisation, said BIEM-members doesn't have any rights they can transfer to any other party.

And what about a donation based attempt to get the money for the full GEMA fee (or at least enough to cover the few entries that might be under BIEM regulation)?
Something like the "Save BP 2009" thing.

..and shove the money up their greedy ass for what exactly? :)
I´d rather pay 10 bucks for one of those FUCK THAT GEMA-shirts...

xrs: Hope you can work something out with them!
In other news, I heard there's a 96k Gema competition? Oh wait, I might have read that wrong...

no discussion about GEMA beeing a bunch of dickheads beeing stuck in the mentality of mid 20th century (see youtube issue)
still the problem exists and the "for what exactly" for me would be to have a demoparty with all visitors beeing able to submit their own stuff regardless of any copyrights infringed due to being part in a stupid reactionary organisation.
and yes, i'd also buy a "FUCK GEMA" shirt if it helps :)
