Revision 2013
category: parties [glöplog]
yeah! 10 eurocents a minute! ;)
I suggested peep show long time ago already.
Your friendly organizing team informs you, that the shuttle registration deadline is slowly approaching. The deadline is on March, 6th.
So, if you booked your flights but not the shuttles - go and do so!

I was wondering about the idea of a group photo at Revision. Camera rig, few high-res images stitched together and 1k geeks saying ""amigaaaaaa" :) Any chance to push such thing into the timetable? :)
either organize your own moment outside when there is no compo (plently of options) or grab out your camera before the amiga demo compo - it will just happen and you dont need a timeslot. so no chance needed, opportunity is already there.
As many of you requested this information and discussions on irc and other channels are already taking place - here is our official statement about the GEMA/BIEM situation in Germany and the effect it has on Revision.
TL;DR: No musician registered with GEMA or any of its partner associations will be able to compete with their music at Revision. Why? We simply can't afford it. If you want to know more - read the full statement above.

Talking about GEMA.. This is just going to far imho..

How about this: You found an association, just like the local football club, hockey team or bingo unions. I'm not exactly sure of the correct english term for that. A club/society/association/union. The ones where you pay a monthly, quarterly or yearly fee to stay member of.
It might be worth looking into, since there's a lot of special rules and benefits of being a union/association rather than a privately driven organisation. In Denmark - one of those benefits is, that you get a HUGE discount on your fee to KODA (danish version of BIEM) if you play music in the locker room, during matches and in breaks in sports events.
If it applies in Germany too, instead of people paying an entrance fee, people pay for a one year membership, which allows them access to every event arranged under that union/association.
I have no clue as to whether this applies to Germany (or even Denmark anymore) but wouldn't it be worth looking into, perhaps?

It requires a lot of extra work managing memberships, registering etc.
I'm sure somebody could conjure up some kind of magic "digital" way of handling that ;)
An excel spreadsheet would suffice, I'm sure. It's devicing a proper and legal "statement of intent" I think would pose the biggest task. At least that was it back in the old days.

Punqtured: I also think that "size matters" - so if you wanted to do this for a Revision sized event, it needs to be dony properly (ie. there's a high risk of being checked)
Personally we did this for TRSAC one or two years... 10 years back or so?
In the last series of TRSAC I simply gave up upon that, and just uhm... arrange the shit :)

Punqtured: we thought about that as well but it's too much work for the simple fact that maybe 10 people won't be able to submit something at Revision. That doesn't justify the increased workload at all.
to put it short: if you sleep with the MAFIAA it' your own fault/choice and you're the only one to blame
everyone who goes to TRSAC gets a free invite to the freemasons.
Not even freemasons could get you out of trouble with GEMA :D
One however could give realistic-looking made-up personal data, and name a country of presence of a country where BIEM does not have a presence.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_BIEM_members
Choose any country not in that list, which however is somewhat realistic.
As that country does not have a BIEM member, there also can not be an artist database for that country at GEMA. Which means they can not check if the artist exists and have to accept that they can not claim royalties for that artist.
Also, GEMA's monopoly needs to die.

If I were in GEMA, I would protest its rules leading to this kind of cutting-off-at-the-knees.

That won't help. Only people who were paid >= 30000 € within 5 years by the gema can get the right to vote there.
Also, what will happen if someone enters music and gives fake name & address data? Couldn't the gema then still target you (= revision organizers) and get you into a mess again?
question is, wanna take that chance?
Kabuto:

Please do not try to cover your identity up with some obvious fake identity, with names like „GEMA SUCKS!!!111oneeleven“. You might not like GEMA, and we’re not even saying that we do, but there is almost no more obvious way to ask for trouble, which, by all means, we try to avoid. We will disqualify all entries from obviously fake identities, however we have no means of checking whether you as the entering person actually created the work.
I understand all the hassle.
"Wie sehr hasst Du die GEMA???" - "Wie ein Verrückter!" ..... - "OK, das sollte genügen."
But:
how many of the sceners/artists that are actually going to contribute to Revision 2013 are affected by this?
Are DJ Sets affected?
If yes: will there be a GEMA accountant to record all that?
Are Music Compos affected?
If yes: How would the GEMA accountants get to know about the "real" artists behind the releases in that?
You know:
even if "Kßöörrkßäßß" was performing under his real name "Claus Luhnnde", GEMA still wouldn´t know that he was even _there_, let alone he changed his name .... ;)
......
...
would they?

My guess would be that any new and orginal work could not be in their database, so if one would use a sensible fake alias, they wouldn't be able to tell. It would still be fraud, however, and a lie towards GEMA and Revision. If we want to bring these old monolithic organisations down, lying doesn't seem like the best route in my opinion.

It is kind of sad that tht you need a lawyer before you can make a demo. Takes way the innocence and a lot of creativity. Still I applaud Revision for making a clear stance and upholding the law. Disagreeing with one doesn't grant you the right to break it. Put your vote were the money is! Oh wait, I mean don't put your vote where the money is, instead vote for any political party that aims to reform copyright.
Maybe, since so much cash was wired, GEMA and friends could be so kind as to to open up their database of registred authors? It could safe a few bucks in the future, if anyone makes a mistake.

So.. if one are not allowed to use a differnt moniker than that registered with TONO (norwegian GEMA).. what you are basically saying is that we are not welcome to Revision? I am aware that we are allowed to be there, but a big aspect of these parties is to compete against your peers / friends while getting drunk.. right?
Also.. I do not understand how it is possible for GEMA to take ownership of an artist. I thought it was based on the work of the artist? With TONO, I need to register the songs they collect for me.. or a radiostation (for instance) needs to tell GEMA/TONO which songs they have played by which artist.. and then they can be added to the database if the artist is registered.
If I want to release something outside my usual handle, GEMA cant hold that agaist me or Revision... can they?
