no, what this thread needs is Disappointed Generic Brand Cat:

it's never going to happen is it? :) and if it did.. heaven help the person who wants to deal with the truckload of differing opinions on how it should be.
Indeed.
And that's why kusma is right with the "if you do it, start small, with basics only".
Jury-based selection + 1-2 categories. Drop the rest.
Not trivial to organize yet, but does not sound impossible either.
ok. for 2012 approximate-gaia machina won best 64k and still-square best demo, 4k is a bit more difficult but mfx-reionization seems quite obvious. now we can initiate a whole jury, let them hassle about with a webform to come to the same conclusion... or just call it. ;)
Just about everything lug00ber said, and most of what Smash said to (but I don't like Halla)

Pick ones for breakthrough performance and the rest and go announce it. And buy some extra loud headphones for when people start complaining :)
»4k is a bit more difficult but mfx-reionization seems quite obvious« – nope, for me it's Hartverdrahtet. :)
Some people apparenty like the awards to disappear:
Probably some long-date jury member who can finally stop spending a full weekend watching demos and intros which, after the first hour, look all the same. :)

So, getting you drunk in some bar in San Francisco is suddenly worth LESS than an e-mail?!you know how many mails i get every month from musicians saying "hi, check out my tracks"? none.
kusma: considering you managed to muster up a single example, and that that example was one of personal preference, I believe my point still stands: the Scene.org Awards has managed to nominate pretty much the same demos and intros as the general demo watching public.
gloom: No, it was not an example of personal preference, the pouët lists showed that. But sure, there's lots more, I just didn't want to diverge the topic even further.
kusma: maybe I'm not being clear enough - look at the nominees as a whole for that year, and you'll see a clear link between the demos nominated and the demos well-liked on Pouet. This trend gets even stronger as the years pass by.
gloom: because it became more a case of trying to fill the nomination spots than trying to cut down the selection? :)
smash: I wasn't going to say it, but yeah. :)
one less reminder of what i didn't do last year! though it's kinda sad for the guys who'd actually deserve them.
The discontinuation makes me sad; I always found an award (or a nomination) an inspiring goal to work toward.
Thanks to all the people who did the hard work.
I don't know what all these posts are doing here.

does this mean a resurection of diskmag 'charts' ?
wouldnt that require someone to do something?
diskmag charts are a good example noone gives a flying fuck about voting for top 5s though!
Time for Zine and Pain to return with a new issue *with* charts! :)
brilliant, as soon as someone mentions people not doing shit, magic appears.
"happens" would've been wittier gargaj ;)
tsk.. put some effort in it and make it a pun on casting maybe?
...that'd be an insult towards Magicians
smash... you wrote good points.. i can agree with all of them.
but i think the "friendship" between the sceners is on another side a closed door for newcommers or other sceners...
i just like to do an exsample: i would like to see a SagaMusix Track in an Fairlight Demo. SagaMusix is a good musican. But i only see the same Musicans there. But this is just my little humble opinion.
