Korg Nanokey and tracker software?

category: music [glöplog]

I have been searching online to see if anyone has gotten the Korg Nanokey working with any tracker software and am not getting any hits. I also searched for Korg Nanokey on the BBS here.

I have a Linux machine running Ubuntu BUT I am ***totally*** open to running something for Windows under Wine.

ImpulseTracker clones are less daunting for me, but I'll use FastTracker if necessary. I'm not ready for a more modern tool yet.

Thank you!

actually, let me rephrase that -- looks like I just need to get the tracker to accept MIDI input.

hit too fast return; here's basically the thing, as in the MIDI-trigger mode in say Schism basically doesn't take nanokey input.

korg nanokey works just fine in renoise under both osx and linux here, and i see no reason why it shouldn't.
do you get any midi events from it in any other apps?

well, rosegarden registers its events although I hear nothing . . . probably just a matter of tweaking the midi input config in schism the right way, just wondering if anyone had managed it.

If the Nanokey registers as a MIDI device and works in other software, it works in Schism as well. You probably just need to configure the software correctly.

That, or Linux has some sort of resource conflict it cannot resolve unless you recomile the kernel or something equally insane. It happens.

it has to work in schism, you indeed might set it up by pressing escape and finding your way through menu options... but nothing impossible after a few minutes diving into the abyss of it.

...under Windows too. Mine works flawlessly.

Use Renoise or MilkyTracker

Milkytracker is a FT2 clone, hence, it's less good than schism which is an impulsetracker clone.
This thread is about to derail...

I've used the Korg devices, they're standard MIDI over USB using generic drivers, which means that they'll work effortlessly on windows and maybe mac and then you'll have to jump through hoops to get it to work on Linux.

TBH though, the Korg nano line is really terrible hardware. Expect it to just break and stop working after a year. Akai's cheap stuff much more durable and reliable than the Korg nano line.
