Help me find this prod.

category: offtopic [glöplog]

A software rendered globe with whimsy mountain landscape. Quite realistic relief (at least for year 1999) it was genereated anew every time. A special detail - blue channels across the land. With camera controls one could fly over it and it was fun to explore every detail of that little world. I'd be grateful to be reminded of this prod's name.

sounds a little like rgba's paradise is coming, but not quite

Except for the globe part, that sounds similar to HeartQuake by Iguana.

Doesn't tell me anything. I'd like to find that too if it exists.
Demos with landscape, many. But one in 1999 where you could control it?

I truly can't think of anything. You sure it was a demoscene production and not some engine demonstration that was released outside the scene? Either way I'd still would like to find that prod too.

Things with landscape I remember from 1999 or close. Platipus (with foggy mountain and dragon, but this one is accelerated). sleepless with voxel landscape but you don't control. I also remember at early time a software engine from some german guy written in pascal, with skeleton walking, jesus christ in cross and maybe there was landscape, I can't remember (that last one demo I want to find).

Hard task you put us ;)

psychic link, cubic team and $een and mandula groups had some mouse controlled voxel landscapes if i remember correctly. also a search on phoenix's list of demo hidden parts for landscape and mouse control might be useful.

A software renderer, texture mapping w/ Goraud shading in hi-color (maybe).

It wasn't a demo in common sence but rather a secondary prod to showcase some software synthesis thechnique (like .krieger for instance). Perhaps it wasn't even a demoscenic prod, it had no copiright marks nor fileid.diz, but interested people should remember it.

well, if it aint a demoscene demo it's either a benchmark or a tech demo.
can't recall many gamedev folks doing software rendering benchmarks in 99.

especially considering its around the years folks were starting to get heavy into 3d acc

So I've found the very thing! It's the terraVox demo by Alex J. Champandard, the guy after The Art Of Demomaking. No see blue channels though. Perhaps it was another build which is forever lost. :) Some binaries and source here.

Great, links don't work though.
But with little search here

I like the title, OpenVL. Nice touch ;)
How would then a real API for voxel rendering be?
