A plea for a tune (4klang?)
category: music [glöplog]
Punqtured, the Dollop tune works fine, so probably best to use that as a guide in terms of polyphony and number of channels. As far as instruments go, you can go a bit crazy. I have a few bitmap gfx in the intro, so it's going to be closer to 64k than 4k. Size isn't really an issue here. Most of the processing for effects in the intro is shader based, so a little CPU hogging by the replayer shouldn't be the end of the world. Steal all the bytes you want :D
If it's easier to use instruments from existing tracks, I don't see that being too much of an issue. I can take the blame due to being 'Mr last minute'.
"Honestly, it was intentional, we were going for an ST-01 vibe" etc ;)

I should probably mention that the the main reason for me using 4klang was I already have some code to do some syncing with it. 4klang is really easy to sync effects to in my experience. Also, the other synths you mentioned earlier are in-house/group ones that I don't have a replayer for. I've been writing a synth of my own for what feels like forever now, but it's nowhere near ready for use in productions yet unfortunately :(
Raizor_: Using some template would be a bit too ... well ... boring, I think. I'm staying rather close to your guide, and have pretty much the first half minute sorted using new instruments. Well ... actually most are made from modifying default presets, but I think it'll work out just fine. Are you by any chance on IRC, gTalk or something else?
I'm hanging out on #revision and #scenesat at the moment. And can be added on gTalk: punqtured at gmail blah blah ... I could drop you a VERY early preview of the first half minute or so if you like ;)

And don't feel bad about synth choice. It's an excellent 4k synth! And yes, any synth that integrates and syncs nicely to renoise's zipped xml-files or whatever format you export that to, will do perfectly fine ;)
I just have to say that I really enjoyed reading this thread. It made me feel all happy and fuzzy inside and I am looking forward to the intro :)
It turned out I was able to make it and raizor_ is now happily coding on to complete the prod.
So far - it's been a huge pleasure for me to venture into the lands of 4klang and getting to know raizor_ even more so! It's been imensely fun trying to learn to use a new synth while also having to stay somewhat close to some timings. Never tried to work that way before, but it's been really inspiring.
And my deepest respect for raizor_'s desire to make this prod happen and especially for attending Sundown. I really hope this will be only the first of many parties he visits, since I definately have to shake hands and share a beer or two!
Looking forward to be with scenesat live during the compo! :)

Was ace to hear on the stream, really :) Thanks to everyone that cheered! :)
and the intro was superb work. :)
\o/ scenepoints win!
Oh ffs. remove the extra http ;-) Crappy phone is crappy!
Yeah not bad :), especially for a first 4klang track. But next time, make your own drum instruments!
Indeed, nice tune!
why is this 128kb in the end btw? the few graphics shouldnt be that big ;) the soundtrack including replayer is like 2.5kb...so where did you waste all them kilos of bytes, plz? or is it completely uncrunched? had no closer look yet! ;)
I think the gfx elements are the primary reason.
@hArDy, It's the gfx that bump the size up. There's actually 2 copies of the logo in the exe, one for the cubes effect and one for the top banner thing. Should probably have used the same for both but trying to get the music in with some kind of sync effects at the lat minute ate all my time. It was a great experience though and working with Punqtured was just ace :)
Your suggestion for a final is a good idea. I'll try and get the size down for that too.

Might also be a bit fat due to last minute mashing of compiler switches. I was having some issues right before the deadline in the 'release' build, so panicked option changing may also be to blame. But it probably is the gfx :P
