Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain more recent drivers for XP, than what is typical?

Yes, from manufacturers websites.
Vista and 7 brought updating drivers from microsoft update (only whql?)

It doesn`t seem like those kinds of system-devices are easily obtainable. Do you know if server2003/Vista/or even later, drivers may have drivers that can install for instance a more recent version of pci.sys acpi.sys etc? Also stuff like usb is probably updated since 2001. (Not getting it through windows update, and manufacturers seem not to readily offer system drivers.)

Hi. I have installed XP, and want the lowest possible latency. I have found that win32priorityseparation at 25 (2x foreground boost, short variable slices), gives the most similar result, to doing a low-latency linux-config. Also it seems that XP needs processes at idle, to not choke processes on cpu1, when cpu2 is maxed. I have cut unessecary processes and services, and actually disabled over a hundred drivers :) This has helped a lot.

I have also noticed that moving windows, while apps are running, improves latency, and is trying to manipulate that through a script, giving me 1ms usable audio-streams.

The last problem though, is, some drivers on windows update, are horribly outdated. A lof of drivers are from 2001, and this is on a quite recent machine.

I have obtained A FEW drivers, for standard cpu-cpu bridge which improved things, a 1394 driver, actually from VISTA, and also updated the typical drivers, that are available. Still there are 150 drivers running, and many of them are from 2001.
I was wondering if anyone knew more recent drivers, than those from 2001 on a typical XP install?

This was an attempt to make XP run as close to my low-latency linux config, which I succeded with, to quite some extent. It now has more of the "solid" feel that linux does. Also noticed that when removing components, and decreasing os-jitter, I recognized following computing systems, according to jitter. From highest to lowest: Atari 512, Amiga 500, Mac OS (singletasking), Linux.

To have an idea of the feel of oldschool machines, and what scene and games would be on low-latency config linux, definately try the tweak. (Smooth minimal-jitter framerate/responsive system).

Don't forget to use a wired keyboard in PS/2, wired optical mouse in USB-port overclocked to 500Hz, and use a CRT at 170Hz. When you've done all that driver work, you wouldn't want to fuck up the feedback loop with a measured 1/40 second black-to-white plus input lag.
