Squaredance?! – idea for a compo
category: parties [glöplog]
Recently I stumbled over the animationsequence-project, which features lots of 10-second animations in any style starting and ending with the same square at the same position, so you can watch them all togehter in a row. So I thought this could be a nice idea for a compo (maybe even a fast-compo at the party). Everyone has to make a 10-second (or longer) realtime intro, getting the creative shit out of the square. In the compo all entries could be played directly one after the other (if something like that works, I'm not a coder) and create a long realtime-demo. Could be nice ... what do you think?
the issue is you'd need to interrupt them with the beamslides, although if you figure out a way to "overlay" the entry name/number (i suppose the massive video equipment revision has might actually be able to do it) then it's less of an issue.
and of course there's the color problem :)

nevertheless I do like the idea, actually.
yeah, nice idea! you simply have to show the beamslides on a second screen, then you don't have to interrupt the show.. Would be perfect for evoke, where you have a small bigscreen right next to the real bigscreen.
...and for any other party? :)
overlay or projecting the entry-infos somewhere next to the bigscreen? or using a tv? dunno... but i think if someone really wants to pull this off he'll find some way
just do a sandbox executable to host all the other ones, simple as that ;D
Or abandon the entry-infos ... so there is no namevoting. :)
Since when are party results representative of the quality? ;-)
sounds cute
Or just code a function, or static lib or something, and put everything together. It could work, the major issue would be getting a platform everyone loves and enjoys. What about sound?
I'd love to see it working. :)
@xernobyl: Yeah, sound could be a problem ... Either there has to be a precomposed track for the whole compo following a steady bpm (and every participant has to know it) or every part has it own »soundtrack«. In this case maybe every part should last for 30 seconds instead of 10.
gaspode: i'm sure if you step up and do it, revision organizers will provide you the compo slot :)
@Gargaj: Problem is I'm not a coder, so I cannot »do it«. :(
that's part of the challenge ;)
eh, a patch of wall next to the bigscreen and an extra projector will do for entry names, even if it is an OHP -- that's what we did instead of beamslides at @party this year : D
Or better yet, each entry could just have a number and then people vote for each number (I like the no namevoting idea) and then find out whose was what.
Nifty idea. hmmm.... hey barzoule

gargaj: or maybe at function, where timetable is not that packed already ;D
@gargaj: totally agree with v3nom, we want this on FUNCTION!!!
you still have enought time to invite the visitors to get into the square compo (e.g. more than oldskool compo rules change for asm12), and we have 47 days until function2012 to came up with something fun for a rotating 250px square. :)) even if it fails, and only 5 people/groups will enter the compo, it will be finished in 50 secs. ;)
and you can make it wild, so the animations, as well as alternate platforms can enter as well. the only thing is that c64/zx users will have a extra task of calculating a proper 250px of their "1920px" ;) .
prerecord all the entries, join them in one big video. just put the entry no somewhere on the screen (e.g. upper right corner), for the voting purposes.

hm.
i'll think about it.
i'll think about it.
of course it goes without saying that it would require all of you to show up, sadly!
@gargaj: i'm there 99.9997%, same as last year :)). function is too fun to miss. luckily that there is no scenesat live streams from the party, so people don't know what they're missing, otherwise there would be thousands of sceners trying to get in. ;)
(not to mention food and drinks on site that are 10x cheaper, than e.g. assembly).
...and Krpa do owe to buy you a round after you finding and sending him his car keys last year. :))

Excellent idea.
Especially, it's an ideal constraint for a fast compo (doable in a short period of time, & hard to recycle some stuff :)).

Nice idea. For the sound a loop could be provided and each entry will have to start with its start and end with its end (so audio blends seamlessly as well).
...each animation starts and ends with an AMEN BREAK.
