Great event. Yeah it's not exclusively a demoparty but you have to adjust your mindset accordingly. Assembly's only boring if you are.

No compostudio videos at all? :O

They usually take a few days to edit down - ASMTV takes a *long* time to take down so they're probably concentrating on that at the moment.

Give it a week or so ;)

All the compo studios have been recorded, now there's a matter of dismantling everything, taking a deep breath, most people return to work after ASM and everything. It's not just about uploading, the material needs to be edited and rendered, there's hundreds of GBs of stuff. Even though it's a job of its own, this usually happens in a matter of days. The compo studios will probably all be online within a week. What we have online atm is what we managed to put there during the event.

So yeah, hold your horses. :)

No rush on the last compostudio - I dread what's on there :)

I seem not to have said this before, which I can only heartily apologies for: A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this - guests, crew, Franky - if we can pull some good ideas out of it, I think regardless of the bladder pain/sobriety experienced it was worthwhile.

Special thanks go to the American gentleman I didn't get the name of (from CMUCC) who opened my eyes to the US scene, and to Gloom and Leijaa who forced me back on track and contributed some really great talking points. Also, thanks to waffle for the hat-borrowing and the Finns for not murdering me after butchering their language ;)

I'm pretty certain Gloom was the one forcing you back on track.. I was mainly saying "Doomsday" every time you said "Byterapers"..

However, some constructive criticism (I hope): It might be an idea to change the format slightly for compos with a lot of entries. One could, for example, show a cut down version of 10-15 seconds of each production and then talk about it. Would help to keep peoples minds fresh on things..

It would kill the spontaneous parts of the program a bit though.. But at least we won't sit there and have nothing to say about the entries because we forgot them..

Of course, this could also be fixed by taking notes during the compo if you know you're supposed to participate.. But then you have to know you're participating and not just gatecrash..

Is there something wrong with gatecrashing now? :)

I found the non-compo parts of the compostudio much more interesting than the discussion of the entries. Maybe there should be a "general demoscene panel" next year.

Fromn a sofa scener point of view, I very much appreciated the studio talks. Thanks for that!

Regarding compos, I wish we could hear the crowd live reaction.

regarding the compo studio, I guess there are two sides of sofa sceners:

1. The people who want to hear a discussion about the entries in the compo, either because they're unsure about what was best, or because they participated themselves (which eg. made the 1k compostudio almost unusable ;)

2. General chat about the demo-scene, good old days, general chit chat which often spawns from the entries in the compo. This is often (for the sofa scener) the replacement for the discussions you have outside right after the compos.

The demo compo studio had both, but I sincerly think that it should be "manadatory" to go through the entries, that of course being difficult if there are many entries in the compo. I guess most people can settle with the panel discussing the best entris in the compo, if it has 25 entries or similar.

Anyway - just my 2 cents, and I could probably babble a lot more bout it ;)

As Puryx said, with a lot of entries you cannot go thru them one at a time, that is simply not possible first of all due to time limitations (compostudio timeslot is about 15 to 20 minutes between compos on saturday so for the 1k that would be 2 minutes per entry more or less) and then that is hoping that you can actually say something usefull about that entry. which often is not the case.

So you scale up and discuss the compo overall or the trends or what the guests in the studio thought of it. You try to pick out a few of the entries the guests like and why and then go on about that.

And yes we do take notes during the compo with some bullets of things that you notice and that is then used in the discussion aftwerwards.

But then doing every entry again and again and again becomes boring so there has to be a mix.

And that is what I/we do.

this would really really help in maintaining a balance between keeping the show a) on topic, and b) entertaining. people have more to say about the productions if they actually remember them (and remembering something about the fuckload of boring entries is useful when you're trying to keep it on topic). people can also come up with spontaneous things to say on air when they see the production in the studio (which might or might not be entertaining, depending on the person in question).

i've suggested this a number of years ago, but the reception at the time was something along the lines of "it's just not possible".

I like that idea too - but as an organizer, I also foresee even more logistics etc, which might be a problem - eg. "it's just not possible" :)
