Creating the famous effect from »Cream Of The Earth« in Logic
category: music [glöplog]
Hi folks.
Does anyone know how to recreate the Protracker A0F-effect (which became famous through the intense use in »Cream Of The Earth« by Romeo Knight) with effects in Logic?

Just popping by quickly, haven't used logic since i had to sell my mac. But the A0F shouldn't it be possible to make a automation in volume, draw a ramp from volume->0->volume->0 and repeat over time. Just adjust the ramp to be very rapid to resemble the A0F command?
a fast sawtooth LFO on the volume?
you could add a sawtooth ramp to the volume automation?
modulate the vca with a synced squarewave

This is what I use for tempo-timed envelope gating :)

i never tried the lite version of scuzzphut but the big problem with the big version was that it didn't sync up to song position, meaning the gating would shift around. the only PROPER gater vst i found was this one but this one doesn't have the option to change gate speed so it's hardwired to 16th notes :(
if you're using Massive, you can use the stepper/performer to module the oscillator volumes.
How about using reViSiT?
Thanks to all of the ideas so far. Will try the sawtooth on volume, once I figure out how it works. Btw I have to add that I am using Logic on a Mac and ReVisit, Gater and Scuzzphut apparently work only on Windows.
I'm sorry, but are you just talking about gating here, or am I missing something?
If so, stick this as a VST-effect on the track, wipe out the default pattern, place one long "7 - Gater" in the patternbar, and just adjust the "Length" and "Speed" parameters to fit whatever you'd like it to be. You can also turn down the overall master "Mix"-knob if you'd like some of the signal to feed through between each gate-switch. Dead simple.
just gating, yes. if anyone happens to know a good gater VST which actually takes song position into account, all tips are welcome.
Hmm? Volume slides and (noise) gating are different things, no? I think he wants something different, but maybe the OP needs to clarify.
gloom: Glitch doesn't work on a Mac, though.
tomaes: While in theory they are completely different effects of course, you can do the same things with them in many cases, and the way the Axx effect is used in Cream Of The Earth pretty much resembles a classic gate effect.

tomaes: "gate" just means "either let through sound or not, given a certain condition". "noise gate" means "cut under a certain level", while "trance gate" means "with a certain rhythm".
oh and of course you can have a bit of attack/release on the actual gate opening/closing so it doesnt sound too harsh.
gargaj: I know (except for the trance gate thing. Is that canon? ;)), that's my I was asking. I guess I never used a gate like saga musix is describing.
I'm just listening to the track on youtube and he's apparently using a very sharp vol slide down on repetitive rhythm notes which makes it sound like a tremolo. :)

tomaes: dunno if it's canon, Vanguard calls it that way :)
Problem solved. The »AutoFilter« can create such effects by using the LFO-Panel. Thanks for all ideas and suggestions. :)
