interactive demoscene outreach suggestions?

category: offtopic [glöplog]
So I want to do demoscene outreach at two local art events and at least one of them requires that projects entered be interactive.

Now, my usual method of outreach is lecture (sometimes by a person I bring to town for the purpose) and demoshow (or screening a documentary, in one case).

Not really interactive.

Anybody have any constructive suggestions which will allow me to communicate the scene to a new audience?

Have been brainstorming a bit with local sceners, but not much has come out of that, and kinda buried in dayjob and additional projects at the moment.
heh I find myself thinking of Press Space Odyssey . . .

additional suggestions welcome however!

thanks okkie. For some reason I didn't think of pressing any key as interactive, but it technically is! : D
gr9yfox: There's another hidden part in that one btw :)

metoikos: if you can bribe Smash, I know that he made an interactive version of one of his particle demos for Siggraph a few years back.

the good old "a maze in!" 40kb intro by Digital, when the intro ends you can move into the maze using mouse :)

mwahaha I am liking these suggestions. more more!

gloom, going to see email from me . ..
additional info:

-there may be little kids
-it will be passers-by so I can't just do a workshop unless little short things
-don't want people to think it's just oldschool stuff (I've already had to correct someone who asked about my "8-bit party", sigh)
make a demo with demomaker

What about this one ? :) And this one ? They look very suitable for kids and, coincidentally (?), they've both been made by Equinox... :)

Gosh... Not interactive... :/

Sandboxes like Shader Toy, this and this are out there, but of course require someone coding. For more instant gratification and fun, Ibniz might be better.

The old hidden parts list has an interactive key/part section, but most of them are for old DOS demos.

thanks nosfe, Korquiq, phoenix, rez and other folks I already thanked : D

Hmm, it also occurs to me I need to see if I can drag this local group in too, I didn't have to explain to them what the demoscene was http://www.cemmi.org/

has anyone made a list of demos that have stuff that the viewer can control? i think i vaguely remember seeing something like that years and years ago but am not sure, and that would be badly outdated anyway

Not directly scene related, but an interactive mandelbox zoomer is definitely up our alley: boxplorer

I think Seven did something similar in The 3/4 Delusion, which can also be interacted with.

show them this and let them sing along - that's proper interactive!

gloom: damn you.. what was the first rule of the demoscene mafia again?

smash: eyh, if it's published by Siggraph it's not covered by the scene NDA :)

What was that c64 demo again where you had to finger a girl by wetting your finger and fondeling the diskdrive? I vaguely recall it being Dutch :)

It was this one, and you had to finger the joystick port 1. I remember that I had to disassemble the part to find out what to do. Ah, the joys of being young. :D
