If you're doing it cheap, you likely have a tv already, and a keyboard + mouse can be had for more like €5 if you go budget.

Besides, name another computer that can be had for anywhere near €25 *including* keyboard, mouse and monitor.

If you're paying over €25 for an entry-level keyboard and mouse, you're doing it wrong. And I say that as a Mac user.

well, if you're planning to use your tv as the screen, you'd better go for infrared keyboard+mouse..

Extended II was the best Apple desktop kbd for several years, the Pro lineup was indeed bad, but these new flat ones aren't bad at all. I even switched my PC to an Apple wired mini keyboard to save space.

gasman: i found it offensive that you said "i was doing it wrong" because i spent £120 on a keyboard alone which, to this day, i'm still not exactly sure was worth it. so just stfu next time, k?

marq: Extend was indeed good, not as good as the IBM Model M tho. Which i still have to this day...unfortunately it doesn't have a windows-ripoff-key which I'm forced to need. so i can no longer use it practically.

The current mac 'flat' keyboards are great i find. They were a bit weird at first, but now going back to the old-style non-2d keyboards just feels.. clunky. A bit like using a mouse. If I was buying a keyboard now, I'd get either the mac one, or an old-cherry style clicky one, they just sounded so satisfying they were a joy to type on.

the first usb mac keyboards were the most horrible keyboards i've ever used, most of the later models i've tried were either ok or even pretty good.

I think the same goes for their mice. The 'puck'.. fuck that was bad. Easily the worst mouse I've ever come across, but a pretty big margin - and I've had to use novelty hello kitty mice before now, I've seen some *bad* mice. The current touch mouse though is good. Going back to buttons and wheels after that is going back in time.

button: Perhaps you overlooked the words 'entry-level' in my post.

If you want to spend a premium on a quality keyboard, go ahead. In fact, if you're using a computer all day for work, it's probably a very good idea. But in that case, you're probably not using a €25 ARM box as your main machine.

My point is, if you choose to use your Raspberry Pi with a €100 keyboard, or a €10000 home cinema, or as a control unit for a €1000000 aquarium, that doesn't undermine the claim that the Raspberry Pi is a €25 computer, which is what xernobyl seemed to be implying.
