well ... I don't think the beef in here has reached the quality of a proper branding by its own, yet ;D
BEEF! - the new non-piscatorial Bass? ;P
I got what Garg was saying - but even ton reinforced what I said with his vaio comments. People will pay more for something that has almost exactly the same components just because it has a particular name/logo on it and even more so if it's been marketed to be "fashionable".
Think "Levis" jeans as an example.
It's a good example since Levi's jeans are better jeans than some piece of crap no-brand jeans from a mall. To transfer it into terms you can understand, think Mac vs PC.
:-P

Good for you, so please go on with your impeccable life.
people forget that when you buy a mac, you get a mac AND a working OS (and you get the install CD too).
REALLY ? Hell's Horses !
[qoute] impeccable life.[/quote]
"No-name beige box with parts pilfered from all sorts of places" life actually.
But,
Cheers.

Vaios.. urgh :( At one time a few years back we got quite a few sony vaios at work for the managers. Very expensive, but such nice machines - decent spec, yet very thin and light. Then I handled one, and it was... delicate. Very thin plastic, no structural strength, the screen flexed if you closed it by the corner instead of the middle.
We stopped getting them very fast - they were super unreliable. Not the actual components or anything, but they just didn't survive the abuse a standard laptop has to take. Maybe they've improved now, but when they cost more than a macbook pro and considering how bad they used to be I wouldn't touch one.
And yes, we do give the managers macbook pros now at work. I've seen a few damaged ones, but they take the damage pretty well. One was dropped onto concrete, hard enough to crumple the metal corner. It works fine. The other was actually dropped down a flight of stairs, the whole case was buckled slightly and one hinge is half hanging off. That one needed a new HDD (it was on when it was dropped!) and the trackpad doesn't work, but with a new disk and a mouse it's fine too.

I can still recommend this:
It's an Asus Zenbook UX31. It's quite high-spec, SSD is standard, and it's all metal frame and panels, even metal keyboard which is just cool. So it's tough as a motherfucker. I've seen one dropped on its corner on a stone floor and it's doing just fine even with a bent corner. Also the battery life is amazing, it's light and ultra-slim, and it looks sexy. Apart from the logo it's pretty much just a slightly cheaper Macbook Air.
Agree on the Sony Vaio: it is shit. Almost all notebooks are shit. Apart from these new "ultrabooks", the only ones that ever stood out were Macs and Thinkpads, and Lenovo did fuck up the Thinkpads somewhat. I'm hoping the U300s lives up to the hype, though.

Hence my request for which question you were actually asking because I couldn't find it.gloom my question was to particular person who works at particular place, neither it was idiotic nor i was asking you
@doomdoom
:)
:)
Sorry @ doomdoom & psonice ;)
ringo: you don't buy good designer jeans because of the name, you buy them because they're made better from a better quality of denim (e.g. japanese selvedge), and they're cut better so they fit you better and make you look better - not because of the brand. but anyway.
doom: i quite like those zenbooks - id get one over e.g. a macbook air. the problem is the graphics is shit, so for me it's basically useless. (another thing people dont grasp about getting a macbook pro - it's good a much better graphics chip than most of the competitors use, which is the #1 thing on my list of buying requirements next to form factor)

ringo is just jealous, he wants to be cool and trendy and hit on beautiful girls.
That being said, I'm pretty sure the two cute girls who came at the bar last friday and toldl me they enjoyed my music did it BECAUSE I OWN A MAC AND YOU CAN SEE THE APPLE! :)

I beg to differ smash. I can get the same style, cut and the same weight of denim jeans as a pair of 501's for half the price. You pay the extra 50% for rivets and so everyone can see a little red tag on your bum-pocket.
@knl - thankyou for reinforcing my point. Those weren't girls. ;P

so we're talking designer jeans and all you can come up with is 501s? :) bitch please!
ringo: oh oh oh, you know that actually a lot of girls from foreign countries tend to think I'm gay at first? That must be that joke about french men being a bit effeminate ;)
Lol, demosceners talking about fashion is always hella hilarous! :D (Smash has helle leading)
And KNL but he's french, so his style is always on point! APC brakka, Patta Para jakka, desert boots Clarks en Rayban planga!
is not having a fashion sense a good excuse for not having a mac? :(

hopefully I got a late 2010 MacBook Air so I got a NVidia 320M instead of that "hd3000" intel chipset.
sure my cpu is lame compared to the 2011 mba, but since I mostly doing gpu only effect is enough from me.
but with his particles engine, it's sure that smash need more raw power than me :D
