category: music [glöplog]
Not *exactly* demoscene related, but close enough. Found this in my mailbox today:

Posting it here because I think one or another sound-coder or musician might be interested to participate.

To celebrate the SuperCollider Symposium 2012 we're announcing a very
special competition about music and code. Music made by computers, for
computers. A competition for dance music producers and hackers
everywhere.
We want you to take algorithmically-generated dance music and rework
it. Submissions will be judged by three hand-reared computer
algorithms, for the chance to win one of three Novation Launchpads.

"Algostep" ugh
I mean, it's cool to see that the stuff Viznut and friends did is getting picked up, but 'algostep' is as bad a genre name as 'googlecore'
...is it bad that I want to make googlecore now?? :D
Wait, wait, wasn't that stuff called Bytebeat? Even Viznut himself acknowledged that in the "small C programs" thread. One would think that it would be a bit easier to keep consistent within these extremely small sub-subcultures but apparently not ;). Or is this something different? Then again, since when do people respect subcultures and genre classicifications? (*cough* brostep *cough* ;))
Doesn't seem to be related to one-liner music, so I guess there is no reason to get all worked up about it ;).

You are young and full of dreams, do it! And make some witchstep while you're at it! (or sludgefunk or maybe some traphaus)
craphouse? Already exists.
well, there is shitgaze..
sort by bpm = death of music
I like the concept and it being picked up, but I wish someone would scrape off the dubstep.
What about Bytebeat?
: D

ok, this is hilarious, I searched on bytebeat and found the original progenitor

clearly the breaks are win.
Okkie, I'm afraid supercollider guys were up with these kind of things right before viznut and his friends. There even were some sort of twitter shortcode compos some years ago.
Knl: ah, my bad!! Then they have the right to pick the genrename as well! :)
Hey, at least it's not complextro :D

You know, some sceners actually believed dubstep came from the demoscene.
Actually, I heard the same back in the early 2000 about IDM.
Suddenly, a character from a british serie about indians in britain comes to mind, where everything he sees is necessarily "INDIAN!".

Very good point
doesn't make the "music" any better :)

...just saying I'm getting REALLY sick of this "dubstep isn't music and demoscene should not be associated with it in any way" nonsense.
And you people wonder why new people aren't getting interested.
