I would like to ask this: What kind of property do I need to analyse when acquiring a projector? How each property affects the image quality?

If you have any suggestions of projectors, tell me. :)

Lumens = intensity of light, right? Does it affect the projection distance or size of projection?

And another question: I don't know how to compare or choose a quantity of lumens for a specific situation. Would you help me making this more clear with, maybe, a real situation?

I've been avoiding Google because of those questions above. I couldn't find any answer for them, so I had the need to talk with someone about this.

There isn't all that much difference between prosumer projectors anyway... If it can do 720p, chances are it has a good picture too.

Do keep an eye on the lamp-type in the projectors you consider. Some lamps are cheaper than others, but most of them are pretty expensive and they will break at some point in time.

For a fairly good projector, I can recommend the Optoma HD20. I've had mine for almost a year now, and it's reasonably prices, handles 1080p and nice bright colors.

You might wan't to check the speed at wich the projector changes resolution and switches from input-source to input-source, too.

I made the mistake of buying an overblown data projector when I actually wanted to watch demos and movies. 4:3 aspect ratio, too many Lumens for my apartment (black is never quite dark) and too long projection distance. Still waiting for led lighting to become viable, since then you wouldn't need to care about the bulbs wearing off. In addition to thinking of just the projector, consider shelling out some bucks for a proper screen or paint job, which will reproduce contrast better than just a bare wall.

Some people are disturbed by DLP projectors because of their "rainbow" effect (white breaking into RGB when you move your eyes quickly). YMMV.

If you're looking for projectors to use at a party, you might wanna consider rental companies, especially because in that case it also matters what you're projecting ONTO. (Walls and canvases aren't ALWAYS good solutions.)
