Belgium

Hi..
Are there any Belgian sceners here who work in the software industry, especially in games or something similar? I'm UK based but I'd love to have a chat with someone about a job I've applied for over in central/south Belgium. If you think you can help, could you drop me an email at evilpaul (at) evilpaul.org please? :)

Nope, he's dead.
what's the job exactly? i know a couple of companies doing 3d there
Evilpaul : i actually live in Belgium (in the south) and have worked at Brussels two years ago (not for a gaming company but as a web developer (C#/ASP).
I vaguely know a Belgain ex-scener who worked for Playlogic and now Larian Studios, I've mailed him to notify him of this thread.
The company is SoftKinetic Studios, near Charleroi. They do gesture controlled games, and stuff.
Sorry to disappoint you, but the job can't possibly be real, because Belgium doesn't exist!
I know Franky is Belgian but I don't know if he lives there, I assume he doesn't though. I do have a client based in Belgium who runs a record label but he's not demoscene involved - you could chat to him if you have generic Belgium questions though...
you consider moving to gelbiquestan? how brave! :)
they're called a croque-monsieur over there!!!
I recently learned a bit of Dutch. Now I am able to say: Rowley Birkin en Maali zijn achterlijk.
lekker bezig dokkie
your ppl skills are so nihil, adok, you even fail at proper trolling
rc55: FRaNKy does live in Belgium. :)
So do i, but i don't work in the software industry.
Not that kind of software industry anyway.

Ahem...
Thanks for the feedback. I have some experience of Belgium - my wife lived and worked in Brussels for a while - but that was a few years ago. I've heard not-so-great things about the school system (I have a 2.5 year old) but then the UK isn't exactly great either.
seven: thanks, he got in touch ;)
nytrik: Could you elaborate? :)
tobé: Good luck with Charleroi? Is it bad? Living in Brussels and commuting could be good, but I've been stuck in the rush hour traffic enough times to know that's not an option!

trouble is, it's not really exaggerated :)

Haha! Ghetto! Oh dear...
I thought this thread was a quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...
Southern belgian is "improving" from coal & steel industry to a more it-minded setup. big datacentres have been put up near mons my Microsoft and Google to name a few.
Charleroi is the dead centre of the failing and defunct steel industry (arms industry is still going strong with FN etc). You'll have to learn french for sure - very low knowledge of another language in that area.
When the job is in Brussels, prepare for a commute from hell. Trains dont really work and the roads are congested as the same highway is governed by 2 or 3 regionalities that can't make up their mind.
We've gotten used to it buit for an EXPAT this might seeml confusing.
So perhaps yes this is an episode from THGTTG.
