Good news everyone! Mozilla has chosen Solskogen 2011 as a partner for their DemoParty initiative. It started with the idea that physical events (like this one in New York, and the upcoming FlameParty in Helsinki) would tie nicely into an online competition based on making the best web-based demos. The online competition itself will go live in a few days.

Solskogen 2011 has now become the official partner for their Oslo-event, which is very exciting! “What does this mean?” I hear you say – well, for one we will be allowing web-based demos in the combined democompetition (which already allows for console-demos and such) and we will be adding a new compo: the single-effect compo. Inspired by the idea that the FlameParty-guys originally thought of, we are hosting this competition as well. The rules are simple:

• A single scene (like in the old days)
  
• A single effect (like in the old days)
  
• 60 seconds of screentime
  
• Must run in the latest Firefox with no plugins
  

That’s it! We think this will be a really cool compo with a low threshold for entering, so get started reading up on your JavaScript and WebGL :) For the complete ruleset for Solskogen 2011, take a look here. All entries to the web-based compos will also be entered (unless you don’t want to of course) into the bigger, web-based democompetition, where you can win some sweet prizes (and fame+glory of course).

To the Danes: could you please bring me five packs of God Gammeldaws Flæskesvær for Solskogen? I could trade for beer or something....

At Revision I kept in shape eating Øffer(and drinking Fanta) after going to bed every night. I didn't get sick until I ran out of Flæsk! Thanks to Puryx for bringing me the Øffer @ Revision! Hope you can do it again ;P

Fringe question: provided this requirement is met, can participants choose to run it in another browser for the compo?

Considering that Mozilla is sponsoring the compo? What do you think? :)

Considering the fact that Firefox has a knack to be slow at canvas where Chrome has less performance issues? Make a damn wild guess? :D

In all honestly: if it runs in Firefox but better in say, Chrome -are participants able to have it run in their browser of choice? I know it's 6581/8580 nitpicking to most, but even a company like Mozilla ought to appreciate choice on the matter :)

Shifter: actually, I already "vetted" that with Mozilla, and they're perfectly happy with people showing in different browsers, as long as it also works in Firefox. :) They're pretty much all about "web technologies", even though they clearly represent one specific browser.

Wake me up when WebGL gets a fullscreen mode.
