sir RICHARD kbab: I bet you will download it and watch it out of curiousity :)

I'll definitely download and read.. But I guess I am too lazy/incompetent to write.

finally! the scene is saved

You should all be ashamed of your dispicable attitudes. Here is a scener who is doing his part when others can't be bothered. He comes here and politely asks for support and he is met with criticism, nonchalance and sarcasm!

Nobody who works hard for the scene deserves criticism! Lift me ups to Adok!

zplex, i bet i wont. ive seen some hugi like 4 editions ago and it sucked so bad that i know i'll wait for pain instead. that is, of course, unless there appears some big discussion on pouet or irc or wherever concerning the actual content of this issue, but i seriously doubt that.

shane, i do think your gesture is a noble one. i also do think you haven't read any hugis for the past 3 years or so.

(plus, if adok would just acknowlegde that hugi today isn't what it used to be earlier and that he should so change his attitude concerning that, much of that criticism would vanish as fast as beer vanishes into sir garbagetruck)
added on the 2004-08-07 23:01:14 by skrebbel skrebbel
I also think shane did neither see adoks homepage nor his other threads on pouet - or it is some shanewolfpolemics..

shane even contributed to hugi before. =)
i have to admit that i like his attitude of helping and taking a piss on people at the same time. =)

if you think that a diskmag lacks interesting articles, then write them. Hugi's content is based on people who write for it. If people write boring stuff, then hugi will be boring. If people write interesting stuff, then hugi will be interesting.

So, if you find the mag boring, write something interesting and send it to Adok. Then the mag will be interesting. But bullshitting around and saying that the mag sucks just because you dislike the content while you can do something to improve it, is dumb, at least.

It's simple: if you dislike the mag, write for it. If you can write better things, then shut up.

>>Nobody who works hard for the scene
>>deserves criticism!

Everyone deserves criticism. But nobody deserves "didn't you notice? nobody gives a damn!" type of quasi-witted bullshit, especially not a nice and productive guy like Adok.

Yeah Adok! LIFT ME UP! LIFT ME UP!
sir RICHARD kbab seems to prefer El Afghano to Hugi.

Well, in that case I'm happy to inform him that Hugi 29 is going to feature an interview with Maestro Monteverdi, the current main editor of El Afghano.

I think everybody knows by now who was/is behind El Afghano. :)

!!

well tomaes, i haven't a clue who is behind el afghano, but i'm sure zplex will win his bet as i must read that interview :)

but i must admit, i do prefer al afghano over hugi.

Well, let's say, the creator of that mag posted in this thread already. And it's not shane. ;)

Tomaes:
It may also be interesting to you. For example, one question in this interview is (this is not a literal quote, but its meaning is): "Why do you abbreviate the name of your group, The Afghanistan Posse, as TAP2 and not just as TAP?" :-)

well, "earlier" hugi used to be hugendubelexpress with stupid magname, stupid tutorials and zero reputation.. so what are you talking about? :P

still, yes, i will read it, only to get disappointed again though i guess.

Don't be so ignorant. :)

Or did you just missed the good part of the story, namely hugi 14-19? Those were pretty damn good mags back in the days, with plenty of demoscene related content. Once, Hugi was pretty much a scene institution (even though adok himself was never really a demoscener) and you shouldn't deny it just because of the fact that the mag lost its relevance several years ago. :)

Tomaes:
"Or did you just missed the good part of the story, namely hugi 14-19?"

Indeed he did. From his comments on Hugi 25 and later issues, I've learned that he only read the very early issues (Hugi 1 to max. Hugi 10) and then stopped reading Hugi, until he resumed reading two years ago (around Hugi 25), concluding that "Hugi hasn't improved". It seems like he hasn't even bothered to check out the issues released in between.

In gernal, I have the impression that Dipswitch is a very superficial judge, not only because he has concluded that "Hugi hasn't improved" (to be more precise, he wrote: "now i thought it got better, and yeah, it partially got... but only partially.") without reading any of the issues released in a period of 5 years. (Again: Five Years...! Most mags don't even survive that long!)

His feedback on El Afghano also confirms this impression: He downloaded one issue, saw that it was a HTML file, commented that it's "lame html shit, no coded interface. delete." Then when the next issue appeared on pouet, he wrote: "CAN YOU PLEASE STOP ADDING YOUR HTML SHIT HERE?"

As a matter of fact only one issue of El Afghano was a HTML document; two issues were plain text files, and another two even had a coded interface for MS-DOS!

Another example that shows how superficial he is, is his comment on Hugi 25. It suggests that he has only listened to the first tune, because in my opinion this is the only tune that might bear some resemblance to "cheap roleplaygame music".

Now think a little: By default, the Hugi engine plays all the tune included in one issue one after another. I.e., when the first tune stops, the second will begin. So if you keep on reading several minutes, the second tune will sooner or later start playing, even if you have not deliberately switched it. So what's the conclusion?

According to XMPlay, the first tune in Hugi 25 has a duration of exactly... 1:57 min! Again: 1 minute and 57 seconds! Less than 2 minutes!! ... Dipswitch seems to have spent less than 2 minutes reading Hugi 25 and then he dared posting a comment on it!!

Now please don't argue that Dipswitch might simply have a different taste than me: i.e., that he actually did listen to all the tunes in this issue and had just come to the conclusion that all of them were like "cheap roleplaygame music".

Quote: "the music is actually poor aswell, at least the regular one. sounds like cheap roleplaygame music. i would like to hear the hidden stuff, as zalza's chippies pretty rule - but i have no patience to search for hidden parts in a mag that doesn't really convince me."

Let me tell you one fact: Zalza's tunes aren't hidden - they are REGULAR TUNES ACCESSIBLE THROUGH THE MAG'S INTERFACE. And if he had kept on reading long enough (to be precise: 6 minutes and 20 seconds), they would have been played automatically.

Quite embarrassing, huh?

I have no idea what this guy is doing for a living, but I hope he's not a law student. Otherwise: God save the defendants he is going to judge about!

I guess now you can understand why I don't take him seriously.

wow. i'm really amazed you spend so much time analyzing one person's negative comment to your work. especially considering that one person is generally a whole lot more constructive than you are.
