shl ax,16 would clear the register. shl ax,8 is one of two wrong answers to the question.

Having been a member of mensa when I was younger I've found that people who bang on about being members and how high their IQ is are usually the most socially inept people in the room & best to be avoided.
@ all costs.

Instead of doing shitty-random-fapping coding test, perhaps it's better to prove his habilities by doing a DEMO.

What a waste of energy and time...

I'm screwed; my last demo was in 1996.

He could use shitload of "shl ax,8" instructions in the demo because he thinks that it'll clear ax. And when someone points out that this is nonsense he can then claim that it was "just a test if people noticed the bad code". :D

So full of win \o/

@nosfe: just wait 3 or 4 years :)

A 14yo french coder will come with us at Revision and problably will release a little demo, yesterday when I said to him that I'm still using VC++6.0 from 1998 he replied to me "ho, I was just 2 years old!".

I think I am an old fart (30). I remember Optimus sending me an email, to tell me about a new demoscene related site: "Pouet".

Of course, the most efficient way to clear AX, or any other register for that matter, is to turn off your PC.

The most notable difference between Mensa and the pouet.net community is that the people at pouet.net seem to be interested only in a few things (demos, music, games, computers, art), while most Mensa people have a rather wide range of interests. If you try to open a debate e.g. about a political or a philosophical topic at pouet.net you will be flooded with cat pictures, while in the Mensa forums you will get mostly serious answers.

However, the self-outed Mensa members that I do know name drop their affiliation at every possible opportunity and are generally quite obnoxious. Kind of, "I'm always the smartest guy in the room, and if you don't believe it, just ask me" style people.

I'll never forget back in the 1982 at a computer club meeting when the single Mensa member of our club declared that the IBM PC was a totally worthless object and had no future because when you first turned it on and got a cursor on the screen, and you typed in:

1 A$="HELLO"
2 PRINT A$

RUN

...you got error messages every time you hit ENTER, since you were in the operating system and not BASIC. Being a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 1 owner, he vocally asserted that he'd discovered a major bug the first time he sat down at a PC.

I always think of that guy when the subject of Mensa comes up.

maybe, just maybe, the mensa people have no other forum to discuss politics or philosophy while the pouet people do?
