knl: the "weltkulturerbe völklinger hütte" is very close (<10km)
It's an old abandoned ironworks which is now a museum and UNESCO World Heritage.
It's interesting and you can make nice pics there too. (more at flickr)

v3nomsoup: wanna split a cab to that place? looks incredible... if anyone wanna join look me up at revision and perhaps we can go together! It say on their website that they are open every day from 10 until 19... perhaps one with better german skills than me can call them and check if that's true? If that's the case I'd be glad to go there on friday or saturday "morning".
