Why non-artists don't understand art?

Guy de Maupassant, né le 5 août 1850 au château de Miromesnil à Tourville-sur-Arques[1] et mort le 6 juillet 1893 à Paris, est un écrivain français.
On a more serious note, the documentary My Kid Could Paint That is a pretty insightful commentary about "modern art", its investors, promoters and detractors.

It reminds me many people when you show them naive drawings. "Oh well yea, my bro is 4 years old and draw like that" ... in some case, I can answer to them "Oh yeah, your bro draws unicorn that way? He's gay then... gay gay gay.

But, does Sufjan Stevens like unicorns?

I was searching for a thread where we discussed whether demos is art and found this one. I read the whole.

So, is demos making art?
Or where is that thread we discuss?

i dont think everyone has the same interpretation of what art is because its based on subjective feelings.
if i was obliged to mention some demos that i would consider art, i would choose the ones who made most impact on me from the early demoscene (90's) and i would mention demos from groups like orange, pulse, acme, plant, emf, and some more. i would also mention some early demos from fairlight, can't remember the name of it, but it was mostly based on particles and looked like a realtime-artwork, also the music was just not an traditional-demotune but a classic one. i think it was released at breakpoint or assembly a few years ago.

so its rather complicated to come up with a formula for what art is.
if you dont know what an artwork is, actually.. personally i dont know squat about art in physical form like paintings and shit like that. but, i have only heard talk about it, and it seems to me that it is just a way to talk about philosophy. i know an artist who draw art, he manages to get some sens of feeling out of the picture he draw. its like the picture becomes alive if you stare on it for so long or from distance. its much harder to do that with demos, because demos are realtime anyway, so there must be another kind of art if that is so. still after watching a demo you get a kind of feeling. either its crap, mediocre, or its very good. but if some dude thought that that demo was very good, and it only had 3d-flyby with ugly colors etc, that would be art for other ppl who know that it is really crappy programming and techno-bom-bom music. so, art would be have to be selected by the geniouses who knows the subject. but who cares anyway?

Mostly you have to get involved with art to understand it. You have to understand what the artist wants to tell you, the context in which a piece was created. Makes it more enjoyable.

And that's what I hate about some artists. They exploit that, just shit on a canvas, call it "World War 2" and expect people to go: "Oh. This is very deep!" or "Rad, dude!" There IS such a thing as "too abstract".

I tried to "get" Beuys. I saw some of his pieces and I find them stupid. He might think the same about demos...

RareWhale:
and some ppl do actually call that art. some dude just said some years ago about art: "buy my canned shit." there's your art. im understand. very agree on that. but wheter or not to use the word "art" for something, i would use it not for that, because its just plain ridicolous.
either that, remove the word "art" from the dictionary, it just makes ppl confused. but i dont care. why do i write here. fuck this shit.
