SIGGRAPH Demo Competition

category: parties [glöplog]
I bet they don't even take their pants off for the compos.

btw, there's no reason why siggraph should be at all interested in the scene except if something comes up that crosses into their sphere of interest. which is rare.
if/when it happens, im all for it.

It's happening again :) I've been asked to let everyone know that SIGGRAPH 2011 is no accepting submissions for their Real-Time Live!

Building on its debut at the SIGGRAPH 2009 Computer Animation Festival, Real-Time Live! expects to continue its trend of growth and excellence at SIGGRAPH 2011. We are seeking cutting-edge examples of real-time graphics and simulations, including:
  • Military or industrial simulations
  • Interactive animation and graphics
  • Research projects
  • Computer games
  • Real-time art explorations
  • Scientific visualizations: medical, astrophysics, astronomy
  • Interactive data visualization and information graphics

As long as the submission is interactively controlled, rendered in real time, and repeatable for a live audience, it will be considered. Accepted work will be demonstrated live on a PC or game console.

I was really happy to be asked to give an "endless-rotating" version of one of my effect for a "alternate 3d rendering"-talk at Siggraph 2002 :)

The effect on the bigscreen is from my little demo borg:

"no" = "not" or "now"? :)

Adok: only someone with very poor english skills would interpret that as "not". I leave it up to you to figure out which it is.

Gloom is so serious today ;)

beware demosceners: for these guys, if it's not interactive, it's not a demo. so make some interactive stuff, or don't lose your time submitting a linear demoscene-type of demo. you were warned.

IQ: Elevated 2 for Revision 2011 could be interactive? Using the keypad to move through the scenery ? :)
added on the 2011-01-12 18:48:18 by magic magic
Magic: We should submit Hugi to SIGGRAPH. After all, it's interactive. :)

iq, possibly others: Non-interactive stuff belongs in the "Real-time animation" category at the Computer Animation festival, not the "Real-time live" track. So you can submit regular demos, but it's in a different track and with a different deadline!

I figured this out too late last year (after the deadline was over), but secnd time's the charm! :)

magic, I have an interactive version of elevated that I made more than a year ago (can navigate, change altitudes, water level, sun, season, etc etc).

ryg, ohhhh, we did it wrong last year, then! good to know! (pity i don't have any demo to submit this time)

Iq: sounds cool! are you going to share it with the demoscene one day?

It's that time of year again -- Siggraph 2012 are now accepting submissions for Real-Time Live! http://s2012.siggraph.org/submitters/real-time-live

Last year was actually a great success, so I hope a lot of you will submit this year. If you have any questions, fire away!

I just noticed from their web page: "Type of work (Game, Visualization, Simulation, Demoscene, Research, Academic, Graphics, Animation).", cool.

Thoroughly awesome that they are now accepting non-interactive demos... win! \o/

No, the demos still need to have some sort of interactivity incorporated.
added on the 2012-01-25 11:39:37 by gloom gloom
Whats the benefit of transforming demos into interactivity just to show it somewhere
where the original demo itself is (rule wise) not wanted?

does a resolution switch count as interactive? :D

Deadline for submissions is April 9th (Monday). Submission procedure looks quite tricky for people illiterate in video encoding.

the computer animation festival has a much more convenient deadline as well.. :) (about a week after easter)

INTERESTING!

do you think it's possible to submit a "future" Revision release?

what is that "some sort of interactivity incorporated" ? didn't see a mention about it...

@smash: I am talking about the Computer Animation Festival.
