do you think the sound in demoparties is too loud?

I blame dubstep
that in 1bit would be awesome.
Because nobody reads the last post on the previous page!
I've never been to a demo party where the music was blaring at high volume 24/7. Usually the music is off during the night and some low volume music plays during the day.
It's people that bring giant speakers that cause ruckus.

And btw, audio was well managed at the last sundown I went to. Good sound in the compos, quiet periods, some good background music at a suitable level at other times. Rc55 and shevek did a good job there.
Seriously, every party does this!

Ditto. Since I don't speak french I can't extract the parameters from the original forum post, so what are they exactly?I've never been to a demo party where the music was blaring at high volume 24/7. Usually the music is off during the night and some low volume music plays during the day.

1) Too much noise overall (time)
2) Too loud during compos (volume)
3) Loud music all the time (time+volume)
To reply to my own post:
1) This almost never happens, but if it does, tell the organizers they're idiots.
2) Differentiate between "good loud" and "bad loud". If it's loud, but of high quality, use earplugs because compos should be loud. If it's crappy sound quality, use earplugs AND tell the organizers they're idiots.
3) I have NEVER experienced this, but if you have, tell the organizers they're idiots.

okkie: maybe, but I noticed the sound in a good way mostly at sundown, and in a bad way at asm (where it was loud near enough 24/7, and the sound wasn't great during compos either). Guess the solution is to avoid gamerparties, and expect better sound at smaller parties than bigger ones.
In the original post I relate how it took me 6 month to get my tinnitus back to his previous volume after BP, where the sound was silent 4h in the night and loud the rest of the time. I was wearing religiously my earplugs and silent headphones.
I agree that most demoparties have more silence, but in this case I think 4h that wasn't enough. If I'm the only one harmed there is no point in changing anything, but other may think the same I don't know.

The real question is: Is it still loud if you're trying to sleep next to some mawi guys...
/whatis 'too loud' ?
comankh: That's what I wanted to know.
You can't get ear damage below 85 dB.

Again, loud sound during the day is not produced by the party organizers, but by visitors. What do you want people to do? Outlaw personal sound equipment?
Why not?
At BP it all seemed "official" sound to me, coming from the same speakers.
The parties that I have enjoyed most were parties with not much noise, like scene event (1998), ifparty (2006) and inercia (2005).
Takeover 1999 was unbearable due to the sound.

do you thhink the sexual act in pr0n is displayed too explicit?
abductee: Depends on what sort of prOn it is :)
I agree, demoparties shouldn`t be that annoyingly loud all the time!
During a compo its ok (I`m wearing earplugs), earth shattering bass + impressive visuals are even more impressive like that. :)
But sometimes at music compos its so loud that you mainly hear noise and distortion, and I can`t imagine that ALL (maybe some do) composers like their tracks being reduced to bassnoise, the other listerners alike...
People who bring their soundsystem (with speakers head-high) and playing drum&bass all the time are annoying most of the other people around. The mixture of different soundlayers is vital for the atmosphere of a demoparty, but at a certain amount of volume its just a pain in the balls.
Makes me wanna k**l em sometimes....
...but I think different people have different opinions of how to enjoy a demoparty. Especially drunk people. :)
Conclusion:
1. Too much volume damages the ears.
2. Too much volume makes the demoparty less enjoyable for most people
Solution?....
I vote for "Outlaw personal sound equipment" to a certain level, people don`t need to bring head-high speakers. Just ban that like bringing refrigerators, ovens, microwaves and third person shooters.
Thats just my vote, all other people are free to have one of their own, cause we (mainly) are living in a free world. :)

Watching too explicit porn does not result in permanent erectile dysfunction.

Simple solution: Go to the guys making the noise and ask them to keep it down a bit. I did this several times on tUM and BP and never had any problems - even not wearing an orgashirt :-)
If that doesn't work - ask one of the organizers for support. I dont't think that banning equipment is a viable solution. We should all be able to talk to each other.
For me the general volume in the party hall is too loud. I think it has something to do that ITS INSIDE A HALL! :P
Welcome to Dutch parties in the late ninetees!
