Project Genesis Sources

category: general [glöplog]
Zplex: RA5MUS has a point there, it's not a matter of great code, rather creativity: getting the most out of what you have.

Gargaj: Thanks, didn`t know about that page...interesting.

Rasmus: Well, i guess my coders won`t find any sources of other postprocessing stuff.....but i guess they learn it by themselves eventually....i hoped they could get a kickstart :)

...and this is where a WYSIWYG tool gets VERY handy.

zplex: search google for "blur opengl" and you'll find sources for what you need. derive what you want from that.
I think it should be released purely so it could be ported to other systems later too... If halcyon had done that, i could be watching hplus now!

What if i don't care either of blur or opengl ? :))) Btw. BoyC: Don't talk, just release that thing. If anybody have interest, they know how to use it. :) I think tutors and howtos much better for anybody who will understund the basics of a thing...

abcug: ever heard of abstraction? perhaps you could see how one post-processing effect (f.ex. simple blur) is done in opengl - and the take the concept and build another post-processing effect (f.ex. simple zoomblur/radialblur/volumetriclight/whatever) in Direct3D. ISN'T THAT MAGIC?!
rasmus: That would demand braincells, and if he had any, he wouldnt be asking on how to postprocessing effects in the first place.

Arneweisse: Thanks for being such an narrow-minded arrogant and ignorant bastard that thinks the earth rotates around you.

It`s not me that need the information but my coders who have alot of experience from Amiga and turned to pc now, and therefore have to use API`s of various kinds. They just need some hints....that`s all.

Sorry for being a noob, i guess it`s not allowed to be that....because i should i have known what you know but obviously don`t.

Zplex, If they just switched from Amiga to PC then it'll prolly take them about 20 years to learn to code on PC, i mean, it took them 20 years to understand that Amiga is a joke.

Word up!

Arneweisse: How disrespectful you are concerning the amiga. The amiga was way ahead of PC in the late 80`s.

And besides, we have had a life outside the demoscene for a while. But i guess with this disrespectful attitude it is not any fun to participate in the demoscene again on an another platform (PC).

The late 80s are almost 20 years ago, so arneweisse was not that far off actually :P

Release the source and then people that can learn from it can do so and the ones saying there's no point in seeing it can just stay away from it. No need for a huge discussion imho. It's just like with almost everything else you choose for yourself what you want to do and luckily people make different choices.

Zplex: don't give too much attention to lator the troll. he envies amiga people for having had style a decade ago. that's something he isn't able to reproduce. not even today on his expensive hardware (check dxm prods for proof positive)

:)

arneweisse is just upset because when we were using real computers back in the 80s he was only just sucking milk from his mothers tits or maybe even just a glint in the milkmans eye.

to some people, yes.

I really wish you were around last year, Kasmus. :)

A well written article explaining how you did things is a lot more interesting than the code itself, it also opens op for new guys to actually understand the thought behind the code rather than just cut and paste it into their projects without actually knowing what it does. This is naturally alot more work for you guys so I understand if you dont wanna do it, but personally I am a bit against open source as it doesnt give me a whole lot, but then again, I'm not a coder.

lator aka arneweisse is retarded, most people are aware of it, let's not spend time on that matter once again

a_lee_n: to be honest i'm still not really convinced about this whole "release the source" thing since the less self-explanatory/trivial stuff isn't really a piece of code, more the concept behind it, the implementation is basically just a detail. if you have questions about the concept you can just ask in an email really.

Gargaj: Just a question.. Is the source for Project Genesis so much different from that one of A Place Called Universe? I assumed that the source code just parsed the data file from Addict and created and rendered everything according to that.

almost.
PG had some deadline hacks we removed from APCU later.

Zplex: Yes, please give up any demoscene ideas, since this is not a place for you, we dont like morons who doesnt know a shit and you are one of them, Optimus being another one.

We dont like Amiga sceners either, they are stupid and never really produce anything, they just go around and are proud of owning an indeed crappy machine. Hurray!
